General Marvel Legends

Mego was still going in 78 and X-Men were at the top of their game starting the run that would make them. I was a kid and only half understood how they weren't more popular since they were clearly one of the better titles. Kids understanding of the world and all.

I'm just going to assume it is a roleplay item so I won't be disappointed, since those items have the Legends branding.

Moondragon's Thong coming soon to Marvel Legends roleplay.
That's a whole other kind of roleplay. But as someone who's worn a Batman onesie with nothing on underneath it on a lazy day, who am I to judge? The line is very thin.....

Guys I ain't that serious. I'm not dissing Thing. I do not actually consider him the Ringo of the FF.

(he's George, clearly)

Actually, I'll amend my previous statement. You can have Thing on your shelf as the lone FF rep...

IF...

You have 4 different versions of the Thing. Final offer. The guy with a 4 on his suit needs 3 companions, even if they're just him in different hats.

Yeah.. I mean it's not like Thing had a series where he teamed up with non FF characters that ran for 100 issues and then a solo title that ran for three full years and then he joined the West Coast Avengers for a stint...

It might be worth pointing out that the Johnny Storm Torch had a solo series as well in Strange Tales.

I guess Reed and Sue were the only two that never had their own series.

I thought of this whole convo today when me and the family were in the smack dab middle of rural Minnesota on a Laura Ingalls Wilder tour. We were inside a sod house (my 8 year old is really into Little House Books). We all liked it and thought it would be a cozy place to live. I added the caveat that I would need a small shelf for about five or six of my figures. None of the three girls in my family believed I could trim hundreds of figures down to five or six. I said I could if I really had to. One daughter asked me to keep the Ninja Turtles. I said, "Ugh! That's four spots down already!" The wife told me to just have Michelangelo for representation. Now THAT seems impossible for me. More than any other team in geekdom, THOSE four seem inseparable. For me personally, who represents FF? Thing. X-Men? Wolverine. Power Rangers? Green Ranger. GI Joe? Snake Eyes. TMNT? Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael.

Thinking more about ways in which "modern" Marvel representation might be differentiated from "classic" and I think you have to throw Luke Cage in the mix. There was a period of about 10 years where he was all over Marvel comics, and functionally became the heart of Avengers comics through New Avengers, Secret Invasion, and Dark Reign. If we're talking mainstream recognition then yeah - not a contender against Spider-Man, etc. But I think he strongly represents a more modern era of comics - and much like Kamala, one that very deliberately tried to center more diverse main characters.

I mean... that's why I'm advocating for black jump suit Thing... but for the vast majority of Two in One he just wore blue trunks without any 4 symbol... much like the Walgreens and FF Classics versions Hasbro released.

I think whenever I've thought about who Marvel's Justice League would be, the question of who fills the woman role comes up. Because while technically my idea for a Justice League is "who are Marvel's Big 7?" it ultimately feels like I do need at least one girl. And my brain has always said Storm. X-men was so big for a period and she was such an integral part of the team during those periods.

Ms. Marvel's rise always felt like a response by Marvel to push up someone who wasn't tied to Fox's movie deal as their new main female character.

They should make a West Coast Avengers 2-pack with Firebird and black singlet Thing and title it "Who should Hawkeye choose for the team?".

BTW - my sons and I often run around in our underoos to make my wife laugh...

I don't consider Avengers to be like the Justice League. I don't think the Avengers have a big 7, I think they have a big 4 (which can just as easily be a big 3 because Hulk is hardly ever on the team). That being the case, after those 3 or 4 A-listers, you have to go B-list, and here you have more options. I feel Black Widow, Scarlett Witch, and Wasp are the three "main" female Avengers and I will always have figure representation of those ladies as long as I have an Avengers display. But I think in the grand scheme of the whole Marvel Universe, there are just so many characters that rate higher than them. Again, all subjective.

100% it WAS this. Fox owned the rights for Storm, Invisible Woman, Jean Grey/Phoenix, Elektra, Rogue...

So they pushed the ladies they did have - Black Widow, Scarlet Witch and Carol Danvers
