Tracking toy tariffs

My family laid a loved one to rest recently, and even though I loved the man and looked up to him, I can't lie and say the past few years didn't change my opinion on him. I have vehemently disagreed with pretty much every life choice he made in recent years which were all in response to Trump losing. Bad decisions for him and the family he now leaves behind and it sucks to feel that way about someone I'll never see again.

245% tariffs is just fucking stupid and the result of the only tool in the toolbox being a hammer. I saw Hong Kong is suspending mail to the US as well. I assume private carriers can still accept packages, but I don't know.
Sorry to hear that. I lost an aunt last year who really became difficult to talk with over the past ten years because of her views, and I'll always regret that I didn't spend more time with her before she got very sick very fast, but it was so, so hard to listen to her. Especially because she was in nurse leadership and also went full anti-vaccine and anti-mask during the pandemic. She'd been so brilliant and we used to have great conversations (I wrote about patient safety and infection control for many years) but when the divide hit, I just quietly took a step back and stopped engaging, because it made me sad. Was never unkind, but felt like I wasn't able to trust her anymore in similar, if less aggressive ways to my brother is right now. (At least with my brother we're able to maintain peace by basically swapping memes on Instagram to get a laugh from each other so we don't touch any third-rail topics anymore. I don't think he trusts me either.)

See, I don't care who you are or how good of a person that you think you or the people you know are. I don't care how well meaning you believe your reason. I don't care if what I'm saying doesn't sway a single soul to my side.

Is the language I'm using extreme? Yes, absolutely. And if that makes you uneasy and squirm, think about why. Am I striking a nerve? Is there some truth to what I'm saying that is an uncomfortability that you want to avoid?

Here's the thing: for as virtuous as you feel, you still looked at all of the facts and voted for THAT. You looked at the first term and said "Yes, more of that". Muslim bans, forced deportation, basic human civil rights being stripped away, trans rights stripped away, violence, violent rhetoric, more...

You saw a narcissistic, vindictive, petty, bigoted, racist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic, lying, traitorous, law breaking, 34 count felon who put us all through hell his first term...

...who is currently in only his 83rd day putting us through worse; talking about sending Americans to the gulag, putting needless tariffs on us that is tanking our economy, who is actively gutting programs and services that everyday Americans use, kidnapping innocent people off of the streets...

...and you want to take this time to DEFEND that?

If me using words like "Nazi" upset you, GOOD. Be upset. Ask yourself why it upsets you so much. But make no mistake here: I'm not trying to sway you to my side. You're too far gone. If you can look at everything going on, and your first thought is to defend yourself or the people you know from my claims; rather than stand back and objectively view all these transgressions by the Trump administration and acknowledge the corruption...I don't care to hear your reasoning.

You're a fucking Nazi. Or at the very least, a Nazi sympathizer. The conversation isn't devolving or going in a direction you feared it would. It's only going in a direction that actively calls your decision making out and what part you've taken in fucking this country over a barrel. And you realize you're outnumbered.

All the great things you list about yourself don't mean a God damned thing when you choose to ignore the most egregious acts with whatever your uneven, shaky, fucked up rationale is. And again, I'm tired of hand walking you through the minefield in order to protect your feelings over it.

I have a family member with a 'Back 2 Back World War Champs' bumper sticker and she still voted for Trump. I know there are comparisons to be drawn between MAGA and the Nazi regime but I've accepted that either

a) they don't feel that the similarities are important; there are plenty of differences between a modern day American political movement and a European political movement from nearly 100 years ago and I assume those differences are what matter the most. one can always ask those supporters what they feel the key elements of the Nazi regime were but there will be plenty that reject the comparison until Trump is literally killing Jews by the millions and sending the army into Europe.

or b) they actually are down with the whole 'multiculturalism/immigration is bad and we should use state power to enforce a Volkisch nationalism' so if you compared MAGA to the Nazis they would probably go 'hell yeah it is!'

in all, I don't feel making the comparison is terribly effective if you're trying to persuade somebody to get off the MAGA train

Let me put it this way:

There's likely a reason Kilmer Garcia will not be returned to the United States. He either has seen too much, or is dead. In fact, many of these families have lost contact with their loved ones. And El Salvador is not exactly known for their humanitarian efforts. So, a concentration camp by any other name is still a concentration camp. To the point that Trump was caught on a mic saying he wanted five more built to send the homegrowns. He sat in the Oval Office and giggled with a known authoritarian over the fact that he was refusing to send Mr. Garcia back, despite Supreme Court ruling.

Nazis are going to Nazi.

And here's a true story, something I witnessed with my own eyes. Saw two pickup trucks pass one another in somewhat rural Ohio recently, both flying huge Trump flags from their beds. As they go by in opposite directions, they both Sig Heil one another. I would have thought I was seeing things until the Mrs. confirmed that she saw it, as well.

Let us make no mistake, Nazism is here. Some of us are just refusing to acknowledge it yet. Or, as you stated, are cool with it.

There was a period where Ali was getting lots of NECA stuff early and likely straight from the factory. I want to say that was 2 summers ago? Everything runs together in my brain. With product getting easier to come by in the States, I lost track of the practices over there and if it was still prevalent. Generally speaking though, if it's a new release and on Ali it's likely not a boot. Could be a factory reject, but probably not. If it's something that's been around long enough for the possibility of a boot to get made then buyer beware.

I assume an amendment to Godwin's Law is that someone will invariably always bring up Godwin's Law?

I get the whole "you're the worst person since Hitler" thing is often an exaggeration, but what about when we have an actual far right totalitarian regime snatching people and building camps while sieg heiling? Did the boy who cried Nazi just ruin it for all of us?

That's quite the flex to try to prove you have empathy by saying you quit a better paying job to go into health care to "help people" then vote for the side that has tried for decades to limit people's access to that same health care & intentionally breeds health conspiracies for political gain.

I mean I'm as critical of "our" side as there can be. I've seen tons of responses in this thread pointing out why the Republicans are incompetent, authoritarian and exploitative. Then I see assertions that the Dems are "horrible" and "extreme" without a single assertion of how they are. That is disingenuous as all get out.

My only issue with the Democrats is that they are still trying to play by a rulebook that the Republicans tossed out years ago.

During that fight with my brother he was like "you LIKE those guys?" and I said, and this will haunt me forever: every politician has pissed me off at some point. But this fucking guy SCARES me. I'd rather be angry and disappointed than terrified.

I'm mad at Democrats for not even bringing a knife to a gun fight. They showed up with a strongly worded letter to a warzone. I'm mad at "Moderate" Republicans for having no backbone and being complicit. I'm mad at Independents for complaining a lot but usually just getting in the way. I'm mad at voters who stayed home. I'm mad at our tax system for being a byzantine mess, at our prison system for not adjudicating justice fairly, at our healthcare system for not being accessible to everyone, at our education system for making wrong-headed choices... I'm mad at everyone, all the time, every minute of every day, but there's only one team I'm AFRAID of, and they won.
