Marvel Legends Gamerverse

It does make me wonder why they made him so huge. I don't really believe the stuff about "we made this non-canon to fit in with gamerverse" line, because nobody else looks that way. Why make an oversized buck that you can't really reuse? What's the future reuse compatibility here? Really odd choice from Hasbro. They could have used the 97 buck, changed the heads, boots, and claws and people still would have bought it. Well, I wouldn't have, I'd rather have a too tall Wolverine on a fun new body than yet another same-y Wolverine.

I'm reserving judgment until I have this guy in hand, personally - I like the new design, I like having some good variety on Wolverine bodies. It just sort of looks like he belongs in a slightly upscaled line. Psylocke has a physique with is clearly modelled after the game design. Cap too. They are beefier or more bootylicious. Those are the designs. The rest is re-use.

I just don't want this guy to look like he is in a different scale if I put him in a Jim Lee X-Men display on my shelves.

I'm... going to attempt to get ahead of this before a very passionate and outspoken response I figure you're trying to goad is made.

As far as *Legends* go - Wolverines over the last few years adhered to a fairly consistent but most importantly accepted scale, starting with the Apocalypse BAF wave release. Since then, almost every Wolverine was comparable in size/height. Last year, the Astonishing release came out, and it was clearly a bit taller than these releases, but for the most part acceptable. Some took issue, which is valid, because no one wants Wolverine to be as tall as Cyclops or trending that way. This release is designed to match, apparently, the game sprite which is super beefy, but also a little taller than we might be used to. Fine - people can cancel their pre-orders if this isn't for them, and they are. Between this and the Astonishing release, there is some justifiable concern that the scale of Wolverine is moving up. Now, there have also been like 6 other releases, especially the '97 stuff that is in the accepted scale so the concern is a bit overblown.

Comparing to another line to make your point is... well let's not get too carried away there, because if you are mixing Legends and MAFEX together (I personally do not) then scale may be less of an issue for you. In this case, and I say this as a pretty big defender of the line and Hasbro generally, it would be nice to not see random Wolverines made that are way too tall (again, should not be eye to eye with Gambit or Cyclops). I don't think this release is necessarily indicative that will happen - but with the Astonishing figure there is clearly some new scale for Wolverine that Hasbro does use. That's not great and a valid issue. No one wanted the taller 90s figures, and by the 2000s they started making him more squat. For those alive at that time, ML3 Wolverine was way out of scale (people complained) and it took time for Toy Biz to figure that out. For Hasbro to figure it out, only to then regress to oversized or inconsistent - it's a valid concern and not an example of people just looking for a reason to bitch. I get it... there IS a lot of that. But in this case, if Wolverines trend bigger and taller... that's not great. They already had that licked. And if they make a Maximum figure that's closer in height to Astonishing and Gamerverse... Hasbro will hear about that valid critique.

Well Dan Yun and Dwight did state during the announcement livestream of this particular Gamerverse assortment that legends would be getting larger in size going forward. This is not a one off. Even Thanos, Juggernaut and Psylocke are taller than their contemporaries from Legends. So again, this is a new status quo and old metrics or molds that are 10 years old now no longer apply.

Here is the video where the mention the change

Thank you... for the 42 minute long video. If you have the exact quote or a timeframe for the comment - it might help with the actual context of your point.

Do you have a timestamp or rough idea where they say this?

Edit: Enforcer beat me to the request!

They could do alternate color ways from the game or a bone claws variant so there's some reuse potential. Maybe some of the figure could be used for other releases as well be they Wolverine or someone else. It's also Wolverine packaged with another figure who had minimal re-tooling and it's sold for a pretty steep price compared to normal Legends pricing so it might justify the expense all on its own via sales of this lone two-pack.

Re: figure size I’m one of the guys that said I’m canceling my Wolvie two pack in part because of it so I guess I feel compelled to pipe in. In all honesty I don’t feel passionate about it one way or the other. I just won’t buy it and I’ll save some money if I don’t think it’ll fit in with my collection. I don’t personally care if someone else feels differently about their collection.

Around 34:40 they start rambling about how some of the MvC figures are “beefier” than previous versions. They specifically mention Wolverine, Cap, and oddly Gargantos. It was just an intro to showing off a larger MvC-accurate Juggernaut but there wasn’t any indication the whole scale was going to be reworked.

Wolverine might be big, but Psylocke‘a the same height as my other Hasbro Psylocke figures and Thanos uses the same body as the last one so I don’t think anybody needs to freak about Legends adopting a new scale anytime.

I just realized - not sure it's quite "minimal" re-tooling. He has a whole new torso, head and shoulder pads. The loincloth armor is also new. That's at least 70% of the figure.

Right - if you love this Gamerverse Wolverine or the Astonishing one, even if they are a bit bigger... great. People do have the choice to not buy it.

A valid concern is that in general, they start making Wolverines bigger which would be disappointing for those happy to have him scale closer to his appearance in the comics. They can *also* choose not to buy those new releases... but it would be sad face to deviate from what has been very consistent and good scaling for Wolverine the past... almost decade?

I get what you're saying. I guess I was thinking this was specific to the Capcom game, so I didn't think about it creeping into the comic accurate lines.

Ah ok - they are pretty conclusively talking about the newly tooled figures which are designed based on this game being beefier. Nothing about how the scale of the line is going to be increasing, overall. So... standing by for that tid bit, still.

I know! I was even telling Valiant or someone to cool their boots on their concerns about the scale seeping into the comic lines - but now? My boots are a little less cool on the topic. Mildly concerned about the next new Wolverine sculpt for the line - which outside of '97... could be Maximum... a $70 Wolverine that is too tall? Could you IMAGINE? COULD YOU FUCKING IMAGINE

Are you telling me he was wrong about Boot Swivel and wrong about Hasbro announcing scale creep? Rough 24 hours for this guy.
