I've seen you mention this a couple times now, and I dont believe that is the case.
From the booth images I've seen, I'm pretty sure they used a darker brown and an deeper yellow more in line with the comic color scheme.
What's frustrating to me is, from the image on the back of the package, it appears they widened the taper of his abdomen stripe back to its usual width at the belt line. But in the image from the panel presentation, of the figure itself inside the package, it appears to have the same overly-narrow taper.

Unfortunately, the figure on display is crouched and the only images I've seen of him make it impossible to reconcile the discrepancy.

That's a great comparison. I figured he'd be about the same size as the Mafex versions, and yep, they look to be about the same. Too big, but not deal-killingly big since that Mafex brown suit Wolverine is the current king of Wolverine figures.
 
Wolverine just looks bigger all around, like he’s in a different scale. That might mean they can scale it down digitally and create new molds off of that, if they want to.
 
Wow he is big. Holy shit balls. Definitely glad I skipped him. He looked nice, but way too big.
