Masters of the Universe: Masterverse

That is the Blade I've always wanted. Right there. They even threw in the laser whip that I was actually perfectly content to not have included in favor of just getting BOTH of his swords. He looks great. And yeah, really blows that clunky, shitty MOTUC one out of the water.

Found New Eternia Fisto at Ross for $4.99. I was going to skip this figure despite my fondness for the character, as I felt the previous Masterverse Fisto is fine. But for $5? Got him. I like aspects of him. Head sculpts are nice. Being able to put his metal fist on his hammer and switch around the hammer and fist parts as well. A hammer seems like a better weapon for him than the sword he comes with and typically has. Still not in love with his whole arm being robotic/armored. I feel like the effect could have stopped mid-bicep. Also, the range of motion with the elbow is limited. It's so odd that a mechanical arm couldn't be designed to give better range of motion. It's not like you have to adhere to organic muscular design. Just design the mechanics to be functional. Odd choice.

I think I have now realized why there are those little (and sometimes not-so-little) things about New Eternia figures, especially the more recent ones, that leave them juuuuuuust short of being able to be stripped down to full-classic versions. Like Trap-Jaw’s non-removable harness, Tri-Klops’ green-not-yellow belt, certainly Fisto’s arm.

It’s because they want to (eventually) sell you the pure-classic version in the Vintage Masterverse line. I’d lay a bet on it.

Luckily for me, I like all the little "updates" they do and am not really in the market for something that precisely matches the Vintage releases!

I'm back and forth on the vintage style. I don't need it but it is nice to have a better articulated modern version.

I’m in for New Eternia and Vintage. MotU and ARAH are my absolute favorite “toys that were toys first” (as opposed to Star Wars, comics, etc) and I’m basically all-in for anything cool from those properties. I can draw the line at like ReActions and such, but fully-articulated, modern-sculpted figures of the classic characters from the very companies that birthed them?

YES PLEASE.

Part of my problem with MOTU figures is every now and then I like to focus on a character, say Trapjaw, and gather up every Trapjaw figure I have and put them together for a picture. So anytime a new one comes out the little voice in my head tells me "hey guy, you know you'll regret it if you don't."

And I go ahead and grab the newest figure.

I really like these Vintage Collection figures in Masterverse. Even though I have Classic Versions of these characters from other lines, the Masterverse body style, size, and articulation is really fun. So, it's nice getting Classic representation in Masterverse.

Plus, I don't feel any worry posing or playing around with Masterverse figures. Whereas my vintage MOTU toys or MOTU Classics I just use for display, I feel like Masterevrse and Origins are my guilty free, do with as you will MOTU lines.

Display, play, pose, throw at the neighbor kid....... Masterverse is there and it gets the job done. And I like all these different looks be it New Eternia, Vintage, Revelations etc.

Speaking of vintage, my Vintage Zodac should be here tomorrow.

I don’t care for the puffy chests the Vintage line is getting. The Masterverse bodies are fine as is. While I enjoy New Eternia designs, some of them are straying a bit too far from “hi-res” updates of the original designs. Like Fisto with the metal arm, Beast Man and his new armor. Fortunately, some of this is swappable between previous figures to make my ideal versions. I’ve even bought multiples of Revolution Battle Armor He-Man, Thunder Punch, and Flying Fists so I can head swap and armor swap them. I’ve gained a greater appreciation for these He-variations in particular.

We need a He-Man that looks cool and badass and doesn't have a goofy face. That's all I really want. Ideally without those forearm guards with the big hole for shields, or weird clip-in armor like the NE BA version. Do something similar to the Viking He-Man except not terrible:

vs a custom I found on Reddit:

The paint jobs and cool metallic plastics we've been getting with New Eternia shows me that they could make something like this without breaking the bank (minus the cloth cloak, if they want to avoid Deluxe pricing). I think the Revolution Armored He-Man was on the right track, but could be still be improved a lot. It's very telling when just about every time I look up "favorite Masterverse He-Man" it's a kitbash.

The Vintage Collection Zodac is currently up and in stock on Wal-Mart.com

Also, I got my Zodac today, and he is a really nice-looking figure. I really like him and Skeletor a lot. He-Man was good, but the face/head sculpt needs to be better for sure.

One of my biggest complaints with the two big names in toy manufacture is how incredibly cheap they are with the paint applications. Don't told me it's THAT much more to use a nicer metallic color over the ugly-as-hell flat colors they usually use. Hasbro has gotten really bad, especially in Marvel Legends, with flat grey 'metal' objects, and Mattel isn't far behind. I'd argue many, many figures from both companies would benefit immensely from just having nicer paint on them (not even necessarily -more- paint, mind).

I was watching some reviews on Zodac and it's really cool how his chest logo and shield glow in the dark, as well as his weird Merman chip eyes. On the flip side, hate the painted flesh tone on his face that doesn't match his body, and it's a bummer that he doesn't have a holster like the NE version. Very torn on ordering him. Might take SC's recommendation and give it a shot anyway.
