After you both got your stuff I hope you gave him a wedgie and wet willy, since action figure collectors are higher than Nerf collectors in the sacred nerd hierarchy.
 
I was able to get a set at the second Target I went to.

So all’s well that ends well? No. First, too many other collectors like Reno haven’t been able to get a set, and I’m not one to celebrate while others are still having trouble finding a set. Second, they say “Don’t hate the playa, hate the game.” Well, I don’t have much love for either at this point, and I’ve slowed WAY down on my purchases because of it. Greed is ruining this hobby just like it’s ruined so many other, and far more important, things in our lives.

I worked at Target 25-some years ago and would go to the back room and get stuff for people (and myself) all the time. All it takes is finding a dedicated employee with at least one proactive bone in their body. We aren't talking Pan's Labyrinth here, stuff is pretty well organized even if it isn't located yet.

The only time I was ever street dated by a manager was when the Star Wars Episode I stuff was out. Back in the day when there was an actual event tied in with the merchandise, not this arbitrary BS.

This whole experience has me really considering just cancelling my other pre-orders for all of the other figures is this wave. I don't want to give money to a company that is so hard to deal with. However I also know that this is more about Target than Hasbro, but I'm frustrated with both. I expect that the experience for the Savage Land 3-pack from SDCC is likely going to frustrate me also.

I usually run into the situation @EnigmaticClarity described whenever there's a reset or transition. I was a bit surprised she went back to look and a little shocked when I saw her carrying one over.

Yea that's not common when they're doing a reset. Usually they're shrink-wrapped on pallets, but as you experienced that's not always the case.

Either way you can usually figure it out with a call instead of a trip.
 
I was one of the freaks who was actually happy to get Thanos. I have the classic one they did a few years ago, but I really dug the colors of the new one in photos and it’s the same in person. Really pops on the shelf and reminds me of the old 5” ToyBiz version.

Psylocke is obviously a huge upgrade. They did indeed make her THICC, to an almost uncomfortable degree. The hair’s heavy black isn’t the best and her second head is a bear to swap, but everything else is great.

Need to find a sword for her. Never liked how the Apoc wave’s sword was all pink, just wanted a plain katana and have always wished that I’d gotten a Typhoid Mary for her sword. Did that mold get reused for any other figures?
 
This Psylocke is thicc and heroic and straight out of the comics.

Though I hope over on that other forum, that weirdo who ridicules people who want their female figures comic accurate (who meanwhile paints up their customs like ladies of the evening) is leading a boycott of this figure because surely they wouldn't want a female figure with thicc thighs to stand amongst their whore-gallery with all their Liefeld-style jutting out booties. 🙄

I’ve always been a big proponent of “letting your fingers do the walking”. (I’m showing my age here.) However, I got caught up in the “Gotta be there when the doors open!” self imposed frenzy this time, so I was already out and about. Great advice in general, though.

The scenario you described above is likely what happened at my local Target. To begin with, the person who works the toy aisle is notoriously difficult. Her initial answer was “I haven’t seen them, so we probably didn’t get them in.” When I politely mentioned that most stores in the area received stock, it was “They’re probably in a pallet waiting for the upcoming reset.” When I politely asked if she could check the DCPI to see if they were in an accessible location, “It was “Nope, none in stock. They must have been sold overnight to someone using a bot.” Any one of those answers could have been true, but I left feeling like I couldn’t believe a word she said and decided to head over to the next Target where I got a set with no problems whatsoever.

At least you’re getting honest answers up front…which further supports the effectiveness of your overall strategy,

The Psylocke/Thanos set was my fourth Marvel Legends purchase this year, and my fifth overall counting my She-Hulk preorder. We’re 2/3 of the way through July. That used to be a month’s worth of Marvel Legends purchases for me, and a slow one at that. Unfortunately, it just so happens that upgraded versions of Psylocke and Shanna were high on my want list, so I’m putting up with the shenanigans, but it has soured me on collecting the line, and it has drastically reduced my purchases overall. A win in the short run for Hasbro, but a loss over the long run…which is pretty much how these companies are managed these days. It’s all about that next quarterly earnings report.
 
Checked out the only Target near me and they didn’t have these. Wasn’t surprised since it’s a City Target and relatively small.

I guess these will be eBay exclusives for me. Hoping the price goes down a lot.

Your next question should have been do any other nearby Targets have it in stock. They added this feature to their internal systems a few years ago. I know this because a particularly helpful employee showed me that list on their device pointing out that Corporate had just recently added it to their inventory software.

It doesn't sound like the person you were talking to did this, but there's a perfectly logical reason any employee would assume it's out of stock when it's on a pallet. The system will show four on the floor, but if they don't see it on the shelves many employees just assume they got misplaced by the stock person on the wrong shelf or that customers picked them up and left them in random locations in the store. Some employees also don't even know about resets or that stock for the resets gets shrink wrapped on pallets. They just learn when the system says there's stock on the floor but it's not actually on the shelf there's not much that can be done so they just give a generic answer of "it's out of stock."
