Ryan Ting Laid Off By Hasbro

Just guessing here, but I think Ryan's attendance at SDCC may be a requirement of his severance package. And, what the hell. It's a trip to San Diego. It's not bad.

Like I said before, ! don't think we have to worry about Ryan too much. He rose to the position of Director at a Fortune 500 company. He's not going to have to go out looking for a new job. Jobs are going to be looking for him.

Now Hasbro ... they should be worried. They lost a great employee.

To quote Forrest Gump: "Stupid is as stupid does."

It’s actually tougher to find a comparable job when you rise high enough like director at Fortune 500 company. There are much fewer of those jobs available at any given time. Much easier to get lower level jobs because there are so many of them.

Also, sucks because he has a family and I’m assuming a house. I’m currently in the midst of an out-of-state move with a child involved, and it’s a ton of work and coordination even with just transferring my job and not having to sell a house (currently an renter).

I completed a cross-country move four years ago and it was an all-hands-on-deck situation. There are so many logistics to manage. My wife and I are extremely organized, and even then it was stressful.

I doubt there are many other toy industry jobs in the Rhode Island area. If he can't work remotely, he may have to change industries or uproot his family. Mattel, for instance, is based in California. It's why layoffs are so gross. It's numbers on a spreadsheet to Hasbro, but for he and his family, it's their entire lives.

In a divine justice scenario, Jesse Falcon hires Ryan to join his team at Marvel as the liaison between Disney, Marvel and Hasbro. Ryan would then call the shots and dictate to Hasbro which characters that can and can't use.

I think that other Dan will replace Ryan in the livestreams. He's one of the engineers of ML and he was very present at SDCC last year at the booth and at the panel, almost like Hasbro was introducing him to the public. The other brands (Joe, SW) seem to have a marketing person, a designer and an engineer in their livestreams.

He seems like the most obvious choice, yeah. That would have to be a bit awkward for him...if it happens I hope fans don't blame him for Hasbro's decision.

Man that is a shame. I always thought Ryan was a bit hit or miss during fanstreams. Sometimes he felt like he was a kid living the dream with the ML line. Other times it felt like he was being forced to show up for the fanstream. I get it, he has the training and experience to know how to guide the streams and reveals so as not to cross any lines and keep things on track. However that is just my perception. I think he was a good fit for the ML brand and the fanstream team.

As others have said I hope he lands on his feet quickly, and hopefully at a position with better money and benefits.

If he does have to go to SDCC still I say........RACK UP THAT PER DIEM AND HIT THE MINI BAR!!!!! hahahaha (actually don't because I'm sure Hasbro will take it out of his severance package.

Mattel hiring him would be nice, sure, but Mattel is busy firing their own top toy designers as well.

Yes, unfortunately this seems to be a time of downsizing especially for this industry and the impact of tariffs and other headwinds. I've always liked Ryan and certainly wish him well. It's always bothered me how much grief he and the team have to take from social media. However it's a very tough time to be looking for a job, especially one in the toy industry. I sincerely hope that he lands on his feet in something that makes him happy.

Hmmm... says he's going as a panelist - perhaps he's guesting on a panel not running the Hasbro one?
Exactly this. There are at least a couple of panels each year that have employees from various toy companies attend.

Very sad news. He, along with Dwight & Dan are the faces of Marvel Legends.

I wish him nothing but the absolute best!

Wonder who else is exiting. Patrick from the Star Wars team is in a similar role as Ryan now with the Nerf team so I'm fairly curious about him. Same with Steve Evans who I think is back with the Star Wars team since Patrick moved to Nerf, but I can't really tell if he still works with the Marvel Legends team too.

Maybe Evans will fill both Patrick and Ryan's job at once now. I'm sure both jobs only take 20 hours per week!

Ryan ting wasn’t a designer he worked above Dan Yun as a marketing director. Dwight Stall is their toy designer. So if Mattel needs people in their marketing division then they can hire him but it wouldn’t have any negligible effect on how the toys would look or function

Man I come back from vacation to this! I'm so sorry for you Ryan. You deserved better. Thank you for all the joy you've brought us during the golden age of Marvel Legends. I hope you land on your feet soon. Best of wishes to you and your family.

As for Cocks, he can sit on a tack. Corporate greed sucks!

I could see him moving to Playmates or taking a job with Mondo. But I kind of also would love to see him get hired by Hiya toys as a brand manager for their overseas division
