Masters of the Universe: Origins

Am I wrong, or is $92 a bit much? That seems high for how small the Fright Zone is. It does have the fully articulated creature and all, but $92?

I hate to skip this, as I have everything else in the MOTU Origins line. So, I'll probably get it. But $92 before tax and shipping seems high.

I'm sure there's a little tariffing going on with the price. But the original Fright Zone was $28.99 and if you adjust that for inflation it puts you right under $90 so not too far off the mark I guess. I think it seems high because it is kind of a skimpy playset by design.

That's true. And I was just thinking inflation, I forgot to add in tariffs.

I was thinking Point Dread/Talon Fighter was $49.99 (I think), so, I was expecting with inflation for this set to be $70 since it wasn't a retail item. But tariffs. But hey, it costs what it costs. and I can't see myself passing on this when I have everything else.

Did you guys all grab a Sharella today? I grabbed x2 of her. I just always get 2 of whatever Mattel Creations offers. I'll probably get 2 Fright Zones as I have all the other Origins playsets both loose and MIB. Except Eternia. I just have one of those and it's still MIB.

You need to open that Eternia!

I didn't grab a Sharella. The Preternia storyline never really grabbed me.

Fright Zone looks really good and the usual Origins updates to a playset are, for the most part, improvements over the original.

Price, in the US, is not too bad considering all the things mentioned (inflation, tariffs, limited run). Canada once again gets the shaft. $140Cdn is about $15Cdn more than the actual current exchange rate. The question is will it have taxes included, or added? Some stuff the taxes are included in the price so that offsets the extra cost by almost exactly the tax rate. Sometimes they add it on top of the price.

Anyway good to see it up and at a not too crazy price.

Regarding the remaining vintage MOTU characters. Those characters are so low down the totem pole of popularity. Comparing them to the main cast of TMNT or Star Wars is a very disingenuous argument
I'm not comparing the characters themselves. I'm comparing fan expectations and demand. When an SW line starts, that includes a set cast of characters that we all assume and expect will be made. Our interactions with that line depend on how they go about satisfying that expectation. If a line goes on for too long without hitting those characters, fans will back away and/or get angry, assuming the people making the figures don't care about making those characters or are actively withholding them.
It's the same here. Mattel, itself, set the expectation by saying they were committed to releasing all the vintage toys (after virtually all the big names were already out, so they knew who they were talking about). Then they've gone on to massively reduce the yearly output for the line while distinctly -not- releasing those characters that fans are asking for and that Mattel set an expectation for being made.

As I see it, a big problem here is Mattel wants to use the passive voice and act like these releases are just something that happen; a natural occurrence they have no direct control over. Releasing one figure at a time, months apart, is -Mattel's doing-. They've chosen this, so they can't exactly hide behind it as the reason they haven't/can't/won't follow through with what they said they would do.

I stand with my MOTU bros. I don't give a shit about Dragstor. But someone does. That might be someone's favorite character (I seem to remember one or two people making a huge deal out of him finally coming to MOTUC). I'd agree with quite a few people in that the only figure from the vintage (US) line I care about anymore is Two-Bad. Besides that, I want the giants and Turbodactyl way more than a Dragstor and such. And hell, I kind'a want a Vikor in MOTUO more than I even want a Two-Bad.
Still, I think on principle it does matter and fans should be upset, even that don't want those figures, that Mattel doesn't hold itself accountable for ignoring expectations that it has set.

I didn't see that. So very Mattel. Oh well.. makes this way easier to skip.

I really want Blast Attak to come to Origins soon. He may be my most wanted remaining vintage figure. Who doesn't want a suicide bomber in their collection?

Why do you always have to throw in one extra sentence at the end of every post that makes me stop and stare at my screen like... 'he got me again...'

$100 does feel steep, but I love the creature and I have nostalgia for this set from childhood. Although given things right now in terms of tariffs, tomfoolery, and everything else, I didn't clutch my pearls at the price, just sorta frowned at it.

Picked up the Hordak/Grizzlor sketch set today for 20.99 clearance. There are four more sets on the shelf, I think it’ll go down further.
Ugh. I hate seeing how these sketch items are going on clearance and Canada hasn't seen hide nor hair of them because Mattel has abandoned regular retail for MOTU in Canada. Only etailers, of which very few carry any more MOTU Origins product, and Creations are options. However Creations doesn't seem to have them
