Marvel Legends Maximum Series

Apropos of my earlier conversation... I saw someone on Instagram post this really cool, dynamic shot of this Thor, charging forward with a stormy night sky behind him, cape billowing out to the side... but after a second the only thing I could see was the atrocious gather of fabric in the corner of the cape where the two seams (huge and unsightly in their own right) met. It looked like garbage and ruined the whole picture which was otherwise glorious. Like for that photo even just folding the cape over on itself in the corner would have fixed it.

But its those corners, and similar things that ruin cloth capes for me.
Never tried to change your mind and won't now... but that doesn't make a lot of sense to me because it feels like just generally an action figure problem. They're toys. Parts of them can look weird. I've definitely thought certain figures - probably ALL of my figures - looked weird or bad from certain angles or in certain poses.
And when it comes to wired fabric capes - I can -personally- deal with the occasional weirdness to gain the benefit of being able to choose how dynamic of a pose I want and in what direction that dynamism flows rather than being locked in to whatever the sculptor decided, which has been the bane of superhero figure collecting, in my opinion, for my entire adult life. The amount of shitty or extremely limiting plastic capes I've dealt with is infuriating to me when 'bendy wire' has existed for my entire life.

I get all of that. I understand that my distaste for the vagaries of fabric work at this scale are unreasonable, especially since I can freely accept unsightly articulation breaks - the knees and elbows on MOTU Classics bother me not at all 🤷

Still and yet it absolutely ruins a figure for me, almost all of the time, and I can't unsee it once I've focused on it.

I may cave on Thor. Im not big fan of this costume, but if people say its a good figure, may still be worth it. I prefer classic Thor, so hes the one I display. They do a classic Thor like the max, they can take my money. Lol.

I also really liked the Ultimate Thor costume. But I don't think they've ever done it in Legends, and probably never will.

I’m still waiting for Ultimate Thor. The recent updates to U Cap and IM strengthen my hope.

It’s a sad self-inflicted deprivation. But the mind wants what it wants. No one can force you to like something you don’t like.

I can’t see a better version of this Thor with a plastic cape though. A cape like that would limit this figure so much. Articulation points that have been requested for years would be rendered useless.

Certainly, PC isn't the only one that feels like he does about fabric on action figures. I think for that type of collector, the best solution is multiple 'posed' cape options. For the cost of a single-color piece of plastic a few inches long and a few inches across, a company could give them static and dynamic cape options to allow for action photos and dynamic or static posing. I often wondered why that was never a thing before we started getting wired fabric. Or even -with- wired fabric from companies that have been averse to wired fabric all this time.

While I didn't get Maximum Thor, mainly because I just don't have a spot in my display for him, I really am enjoying seeing the pictures of this figure. He really does seem to be the first offering of this subline that actually seems "maximum" to me. If Hasbro winds up doing a classic Thor with the same amount of care, I'll happily plunk down the cash for him.
