Selling Toys - Horror Stories & "Happy" Customers

Isn't there anyway to withhold at least some percentage of the return if the buyer doesn't return the item in the condition it was sent? Probably a bunch of eBay loopholes, but did you ask?

You're gonna have to call Ebay again. Don't give in to their idiocy and lies TO YOU, who is also their customer.

At the very least, if they made the buyer who caused the problem whole - and who has now STOLEN FROM YOU - demand they also make you whole at the very least. Don't give up or give in!

Agree with this 100%

You might have to attempt to recoup money from your carrier for a damaged item. It's shady, but years ago a guy said the DCUC Robin I sent him had a broken ankle. It wasn't broken when I sent it. The guy seemed nice enough so I refunded him and collected the insurance.

Yeah, so eBay has a system in place for "preferred sellers", which basically means if you A) offer free returns on everything or B) you're listed as a top seller (I'm not for some reason, even with 20+ years and 100% feedback), then you can claim up to 50% of the refund cost.

I have my listings marked as "no returns" and eBay has never given me a fancy title, so I guess I'm just out the full amount. I contacted them again through email, this was the gist of that:

Them: We take this very seriously! Rest assured, we value you. We recommend filing a report against the buyer.

Me: I've done that twice, already. The first time one of your guys told me to do it and what to say. (I go on with further info)

Them: Thank you for that. We take this very seriously! Rest assured, we value you. We recommend filing a report against the buyer.

Me: I did that! A few times! (explain it further)

Them: We appreciate you! At this time, if you are a preferred seller (blah blah blah, I'm not so it's meaningless). Otherwise, we recommend...

So I guess I'll wait until tomorrow and call back again. It really feels like it's all luck of the draw with who you get on the phone as to whether they will actually help you or not. This lady today even said that she saw no record of me contacting them previously, even though the second guy I talked to was able to pull up the transcript from the first guy I talked to. I hate eBay.

The most frustrating part is just the sense of injustice, as dumb as that sounds. I was told by 2 different reps, each a week apart, that I was in the right and I had nothing to worry about. I don't understand the point of that if the system is just going to auto-side with the other guy. So this dude:

1. Lied to eBay on his reason for a return.
2. Got his money back.
3. Got to keep a ton of extra IM armor parts that he can now re-sell.
4. Won, and was fucking smug about it.

Meanwhile, I:

1. Did everything right, per eBay themselves.
2. Owe eBay the full cost of the figure + shipping + sellers fees because they already refunded this guy.
3. Have half of a Hot Toys figure now (yall know how much this kills the value of it)
4. Lost even though I was right.

If any of you ever come across moosemystro on ebay, do not sell to him. Or buy from him, for that matter.

Yeah that's more or less how it worked with the theft I went through with PayPal.

I even had the postmaster of the city on my side and had all the tracking information with timestamps and data and satellite photos to prove it was delivered.

They gave no f****, and I'm pretty sure it was a foregone conclusion the whole while I was d****** around with it.

Fucking lame. My autistic sense of justice says the whole system needs to be burned to the ground.

The rest of me isn't arguing.

Everything prior to today felt great, but that's because they were spoonfeeding me bullshit with sugar on it, I guess. Today definitely feels like that foregone conclusion, right down to being told I'd get an email with instructions to appeal and instead it was an email telling me I can't appeal because they already took care of that for me and I lost.

Damien made the great point earlier that you are also a customer, and that's why s*** like this really burns me autistically.

You did everything correctly. You followed all the rules that they gave you to the letter. You went above and beyond to make sure you met all their f****** criteria.

And yet you get punished for it while this f*** ass just swings around with his dick in the wind half-assing every step of their own process.

Like I wouldn't ever commit some sort of corporate terrorism. But you know. If I ever did, there's a lot of receipts people would have when the media would come knocking, so at least we couldn't go, "we don't know why".

I know not everyone is cool airing their dirty laundry in public or seeming like too difficult a customer, but what if you made a video about it on your channel, Smallville? Even if you go about it a roundabout way, like making it more of a general venting video about ebay and shipping and all that that includes your story, rather than just a video about your story. If that makes sense? People love clickbait videos about drama, and heck, even if the audience it reaches is small, sometimes that's all it takes for the company at large to take notice and make things right. Never underestimate the power of a bunch of keyboard warriors.

Credit where it's due - Schizm made that point. I just agreed with him.
