Marvel Legends Gamerverse

Just got shipping notification for Black Cat! Then saw it was DHL. The highs and lows of collecting. Man... They're sending my favorite girl by DHL? She deserves better than that.

Nailed it. They made Wolverine—arguably the coolest character in comics—look bad. It's quite the feat. The patent leather Doc Martens couldn't be less Logan.

I've played a lot of Rivals. I have 145 hours in the game. Like most MCU costumes, I think the looks are largely overdesigned. I like a couple of the costumes, namely Thor and Psylocke, but I'd mostly use a Rivals wave to shoehorn in overdue redos.

Squirrel Girl, in particular, has a terrible Legends figure that's desperate for replacement. Her Rivals costume is close enough to her comic gear.

So the thing about this Rivals talk is that of the like 40 Marvel characters in Rivals at this point Luna Snow is the only new character we dont have in Legends already.
I suppose Mantis only has MCU figure, but the game version doesn't look much like the version I would want.

So my answer is no, I don't want Rivals based figures because its just the same damned characters we already have a bunch of... sigh.

I guess that’s a good point. Also come to think of it but we were never completely fulfilled in the promise of a X-Men Arcade set

Hell yeah. I know I read comics before, but I have a vivid memory of waiting on my dad at the PX barbershop in Oslo, and the barber had a stack of comics with the newspapers and magazines.

He had a few issues of their very first appearances, and I thought the pretty light girl and the shadow cape dude were the coolest things I'd ever seen. Loved the synergy and designs. When they showed up in Maximum Carnage the game and the comic I was ecstatic.

Please update them in any form, I need Tandy on the modern articulated body. Oh can we get them in their X-Men outfits?! We're doing dark Avengers.

Where's the dark X-Men?!
 
I think it's also worth pointing out that according to the Rivals lore, The last I had checked she was not officially Betsy, but some alternate take on Kwannon.

And they also split up anyway during Krakoa.

So my point is, that's another character we don't have and I've been wanting.

Here's some bonus childhood lore: when the original Betsy Braddock body shows up as Kwannon and then claims that Psylocke on the blue Squad was an imposter... I was always unsure if they were supposed to be Asian or not because of how Kubert drew eyes. For the longest time I thought it was actually Kwannon until I read older X-Men and Excalibur comics and realized the pink hair was supposed to be the giveaway.
 
I think a wave of figures for Rivals might be the first Legends wave I actually skip. Arguably, the base designs are all purposefully lame to encourage people to buy or unlock better ones (gonna happen with a free game). The proportions would mean articulation would also be wonky and probably limited. I can't see these turning out well. That said, I do mildly regret not getting any of the Overwatch figures...

I got my Dagger series 1 Marvel trading card confiscated by the P.E. teacher in 5th grade because she deemed the costume inappropriate. The nerve!
 
You can make that figure with a simple headswap!

In the actual gameplay and not just glamour shots are the heads of the Rivals characters always that small? They are distractingly tiny.

Also, "Dark X-Men" - is that a current plot?

Yeah I can imagine if you have decent kitbashing skills, all you need is a Damion Hellstrom and Chamber figure and you’re good to go. Also if you already have the AoA Nate great you already have the hair with the white streaks so you’re good to go. But if that’s not good enough you could always buy a head cast or something

Y'know... if the torsos and feet pop off easily enough, that's a ridiculously easy kitbash. Nate Grey's super cheap. The other two still go for retail most places but at least they haven't jumped in value to the point where kitbashing them would be cost prohibitive.

I like the clever use of the shield effect piece in this pic:

$60 still feels steep for these, but I've been wanting an untextured Cap figure and I like that color on Venom so I pulled the trigger. Using a $50 amazon gift card I had lying around eased the sting.
