POTF2 was the first toy line I hunted down after getting my driver's license. Turns out, not having to ask parents for rides MIGHT have been the gateway to "adult collecting". Anyway, I would hit a LOT of stores looking for new waves. My favorites included slave Leia, removable helmet Darth Vader, Bespin Luke, Yoda, the Force Ghost 3 pack, and Grand Moff Tarkin. My girls love the Leia collection figures with the soft goods....particularly ceremony Leia and "Ewok princess" Leia. I didn't have the vintage figures as a kid.....just Teebow. So this was the Star Wars line I got into on the ground floor.
I also got all the vehicles--Millennium Falcon, X Wing, TIE Fighter, Slave 1, Luke's Speeder. Since then I've collected all the vintage figures that aren't the Last 17, but I never got the vintage vehicles because the POTF2 vehicles ARE the vintage vehicles with more movie-accurate weathering details....I love them.
Another "win" for POTF2 over the vintage line was the Cantina creatures. I have the vintage Greedo, Walrus Man, Hammer Head, I get why they don't look like the movie, I tried to like them for the "charm" of being inaccurate.....I can't do it. Getting those 3 looking like they looked in the movie was cool!
I have to say, though, that even nostalgia can't save those first wave figures with all the muscles. I tried to overlook it for a long time, but when they started making leaner Lukes and Hans, those muscle figures were sent away quick.
