Mattel DC Figures

Why? They did it right up to the end of their last time with the license, and McFarlane has consistently done it for his entire tenure. I don't see any good reason why that would change now. Some of those older movie versions are incredibly popular still. McFarlane has managed to sell like.. 3 or 4 Batmans based on the Nolan movies alone.
I agree. Just an example, but Superman ‘78 will hit its 50th anniversary in 2028, and Batman ‘89 it’s 40th in ‘29, both under the Mattel licensing period. Why wouldn’t they try to make a few bucks there?

I made an exception for anniversary dates for movies like that. And I guess I'm letting my own prefernces color my opinion, but I just find it hard to believe that people will just keep buying the same movie looks over and over and over again. But apparently I'm wrong.

Their old content is found money. They'll do both. They're only releasing about 2, maybe 3 movies a year at this point; if it ramps up, maybe we'll see older films de-prioritized, but come on, there's always room for a Heath Ledger Joker figure.

While I'm mostly interested in seeing what figures they'll do based on comics and animated projects, I do hope they mostly concentrate on making figures of the newer movies and shows for the live-action side of things.

I know neither will exactly be relevant by the time their collector line starts up, but it would be cool to see them start of with some figures based on this year's Supergirl movie and the Lanterns streaming series.

I guess. I don't even want the ones I've got at this point, so the constant appetite for more eludes my understanding.
Takes all kinds. I'm sure lots of people wouldn't understand my constant need to buy new Conan figures that look a hell of a lot like the last Conan figure. But I do it anyway.

Todd found a nice profitable little niche for himself with all these older Batman movies. Do we really believe Mattel is gonna plow that field again? I’m skeptical to say the least.

And it really doesn’t matter to me either way. I’m not buying them. I just don’t care about live action figures.

Do we really believe Mattel is gonna plow that field again?
Yes. Because Mattel likes money and they want to make the stuff that people are going to buy. Literally one of the last Batman figures Mattel produced before losing the license in 2018 was Batman Forever Val Kilmer Batman. They are as aware as anyone else how deeply popular and instantly recognizable movie versions of Batman are (not to mention that it's Batman - one of the most popular and recognizable fictional characters in human history - so virtually any version is a good version to make some money).

As per my statement above; no matter how many companies churn out the same Batman figure, it always ends up being a success for them. Do a quick Google on how many companies, over how many years, have made Batman figures based on the three Nolan films. Which of them DID NOT sell? Basically none. Whether anyone likes it or not, those movie versions of Batman will virtually always sell. And whatever Mattel may be, they're not so stupid as not to know all of this.

I don't buy that shit, either, but Nolan Batman is basically Darth Vader. They can release six of them this year and they'll sell out.

Some people do. But the next Nolan Batman figure will always be someone's first Nolan Batman figure.
