See, and I love that. That dragon sculpture is exactly as big and ridiculous as I envisioned it from the books. I feel like Melnibone is a lot like how I imagine the noble houses in Dune, where the artistry of their stuff is so overdone as to be practically Baroque in their excess.

I hear you, it goes along with the royal style that Elric embraces. My logical IT guy brain doesn't compute a huge elaborate helmet like that in an actual battle. I know Samurai did it though, so it was a thing. It's just a personal thing honestly!

This is how I see Elric in my head, and I'd love this version:

Although...this is only occuring to me now, maybe this version is just him in the same armor the figure is, just the left arm armor has been torn off?

Somehow I had never heard of Joe Abercrombie until this weekend when a friend of mine told me they had to miss a meeting because they were going to see him at a bookstore.
I feel like the upcoming Yoshitaka Amano x Beautiful Chemistry collab figure hits this style of character design really well - granted more in the JRPG direction.

I wonder if Amano ever drew Elric, it seems perfect for him.

He absolutely did, in fact he did several Moorcock characters:

But yeah, I'm down for a JRPG Elric too. The more the merrier.
I'd be down for any Brom-inspired Elric figures. But then again I'd be down for any action figures inspired by Brom's work in general.
100%. Cosigned.

If anyone here is in the Los Angeles area - Savage Crucible just confirmed that they will have limited quantities of Brynyar and Naraka at the "Motuniverse" event next month. Not sure if they'll have any Elrics....

You gotta try the First Law trilogy or one of the spinoff standalone novels like The Heroes or Best Served Cold. Some of the best modern fantasy stuff out there imo. Incredibly well-written characters.

I don't think the character designs are fun or interesting enough to warrant action figures, but I would definitely buy them anyway if they were made by Harvinger.

I read the Heroes first sort of by accident (airport bookstore purchase on a trip) and wish I'd started with the First Law trilogy. All of the standalone books really do stand on their own VERY well, but there's a "OH HEY HIM THAT GUY!" through-line if you read them in order I think vibes better. Plus you get to see the full character progression of the greatest syphilitic scumbag mercenary general in modern fantasy literature if you go in order.

Oh man I’m happy reading all the praise for Abercrombie. A good friend of mine gifted me the First Law trilogy for Christmas and I’m planning to get to it after I finish my current reading. I’ve heard only good things.

Friends and family that gift you books, share the passion, and actually read things you recommend (and vice versa!) Truly one of the greatest things.

Harvinger Studios, Savage Crucible just announced on their twitter that the in-stock sale will be early June and Elric will be, in their words, "VERY LIMITED AMOUNTS."

It's funny, both Cook's and Abercrombie's character aren't SUPER action figure-y but I think Savage Crucible could make a banger of a Croaker or Caul Shivers.
That's why I would choose Malazan Book of the Fallen if I could pick any fantasy license for the line. It's like the Black Company but with way more characters that would make for cool action figures: wizards, giants, elves, assassins, undead caveman warriors, dragons, shapeshifters, gods and demigods... This Elric has me dreaming about an Anomander Rake figure.
