So it was announced earlier this year that Marvel and DC are doing crossovers again. That to me is very, very cool. I've always had a fondness for the inter-company crossover stuff. First up is Batman and Deadpool.
That looks like it could be pretty entertaining. I don't know why they haven't done Batman and Wolverine yet. That would be like a license to print money.
I know it's only a matter of time before one of the companies pisses off the other, but I hope this continues for awhile. With that being said, I have a wishlist. You knew it was going to happen. Don't worry, I'll keep it short. We'll start with one I have wanted to see my entire life.
The Justice Society of America and the Invaders
The story has to be set during World War 2, 'natch. The possibilities here are endless. A Flash versus the Whizzer race. Captain America leading the JSA on a mission. Wonder Woman leading the Invaders into Axis occupied Europe. Sandy and Robin teaming up with Bucky and Toro. Both teams coming together to fight an Injustice Society that's being led by the Red Skull and Agent Axis. Guest appearances by Sgt Rock, Sgt Fury, Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, The Seven Soldiers of Victory and The Liberty Legion. Geez, this would have to a 10 or 12 issue mini-series.
The X-Men and the Doom Patrol
This story must be set in the very early days of both groups. Two teams of freaks with strange and outlandish powers, both groups outcasts, both rejected by the same society they have sworn to protect, and both led by a genius in a wheelchair.
The New Gods and the Eternals
A tribute to the King. Grant Morrison writes it and Dan Mora draws it.
Young Avengers and Young Justice
Nothing quite like a ton of teen angst. I think this series would make wonderful tribute to the late Peter David.
Justice League Dark and Dark Avengers
It would a lot of fun to watch Norman Osborn try and figure out John Constantine.
Sgt Fury and Sgt Rock
I have a fondness for those old Silver Age war books by the likes of Lee, Kirby, Kanigher and Kubert. It would be fun to watch the Howling Commandos fight their way off Dinosaur Island alongside Rock, the Suicide Squad, the Haunted Tank, The Losers and the Creature Commandos.
The Justice League of America and the Mighty Avengers
I know what you're going to say. Been there, done that. But this one would be different. Set the story back in the late 60's or early 70's, when the Silver Age began to turn to Bronze. When the Justice League moved out of their cave in Happy Harbor, Rhode Island and moved to a satellite 22,300 miles above the Earth's surface. When Thor and Iron Man returned to the Avengers in their 5th Avenue mansion. Have the villains be Kang the Conqueror and the Lord of Time. What an epic romp that would be.
So that's my picks. I know what you're going to say. There's not a snowball's chance in hell of these ever happening, with the possible exception of Justice League Dark and The Dark Avengers. I know that. These choices are not marketable. In this day and age you need something with the words Bat Super Wonder X Spider in the title, with maybe Lantern Flash Surfer Cap Iron. Otherwise it ain't gonna sell. Marvel and DC want to make these crossovers events and I get that. Maybe a Secret Crisis that Geoff Johns talked about in Doomsday Clock. I know that.
For me, this was just a fun little exercise. And I just want to get some fun out of this internet thingie. It sure doesn't have to be deadly serious all the time.
