Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

I'm really hoping we get good news and a release date for X-Men 97 S2 - do we know if that's even coming this year?
I think it's been confirmed as to be returning next year, unfortunately. Since it's already been renewed for a season 3, I can only hope that the delay will allow them to work on both concurrently, and maybe we won't have to wait so long between 2 and 3.

Watched "Brave New World" last night as it has now popped up on Disney+.

Yikes. I actually feel bad for Anthony Mackie, he deserves better than this. Giancarlo Esposito, too.

They were clearly trying to make another "Winter Soldier" but thanks to terrible writing, came nowhere close. The only redeeming thing I can think of from the whole movie was the Bucky scene.

All this time we've waited for the Leader to return and this is what we get? And what was the deal with Liv Tyler? Was that computer generated or something? Such a weirdly filmed scene when she finally shows up.

I don't even know why they made Brave New World. Someone wanted to pick up on a dangling thread from 15 years ago so much that they were willing to recast an actor to do it. The only thing this movie did for me was finally address Celestial Island, and that didn't need a Hulk to resolve.

I know I've been pretty vocal about wishing they'd moved on from Avengers after Phase 3, so it's likely my bias affecting my feelings on the subject, but a Captain America movie seemed like the wrong place to have a Hulk movie that dealt with the fallout of the Eternals movie.

For Born Again Season Two.

I figured that was coming. I thought it was gonna happen in season 1, actually.

I wonder who the woman masked up in red is? Or is it just a set worker worried about catching something? Looks like the same type of covering as WT, just in red.

And Fletch's description of Brave New World is spot on ... which is ridiculous. Can't believe that's the best they could come up with. I feel like there was some studio head who was obsessed with the idea of Harrison Ford hulking out no matter how dumb the movie had to be to get there.

I saw Thunderbolts last night.

I'm even madder at Taskmaster's death than I thought I would be. I was thinking it was going to be an easily-predicted death at the hands of Sentry to show how crazy he was, but it wasn't even that. Why was she even in this movie? Why couldn't she stay in it? They had two options and somehow picked the stupider third option.

The warehouse fight was awesome. Even though they were all punch&shoot guys, their moves were so distinctive, and everybody having different targets kept it fresh. This may be the last part of the movie I really liked, though.

The rest of the movie was fine. I liked that they set up a story where a bunch of punch & shoot people had to defeat someone who couldn't be punched or shot. But they didn't have time to convince me that anybody beside Yelena was really understanding him.

Honestly, i think we could've cut Bucky entirely and used the extra time to specifically show the rest of the cast learning to deal with their demons and sincerely accepting Bob's.

Like I said, I like the premise, and the shame room concept worked really well for these damaged characters, I just wish we got more of that instead of all the legwork it took to get Congressman Barnes involved.

Finally, what an unsatisfying conclusion for the villain of the story. Her only punishment is "we own you?" That sucks. Now I'm mad again.

This is speculation on my part, but the concept behind Brave New World would make a lot more sense if a Kang Variant was the VP and in line to become President, and he was pulling the strings to get Ross out of the way and get control of the Celestial. Also pulling the strings behind Val to create the Sentry program and their own team of Avengers.

I would have liked for Taskmaster to be a bigger part of the story, especially knowing their plan for her, but I loved that movie so much that I accept it and wouldn't change anything else.

While I don't know for sure how things would've played out if they hadn't ditched the Kang storyline entirely, I do think both of those things are at least possibilities. Or heck, if they hadn't rushed Secret Invasion out so quickly, even working the Skrulls into the storyline somehow could've been a viable (and arguably better) option. I can't imagine they got rid of all (or most) of the Skrulls that easily.

Oh, I can. Just SNAP Secret Invasion out of total existence.

When something doesn't work on THAT level and damages your MCU-niverse that badly, just let it go and play like it never happened. Nick is on his space station, Maria is running around being awesome and the Skrulls are elsewhere, never to be mentioned again.

Works for me! Blip.

This is a great summation.

Were there actual rumors Kang was supposed to be in BNW? I've never heard that before and the timelines don't really make sense as BNW was shooting or very close to before he was fired. I think the rumors that Val was supposed to be involved make a ton more sense, but again, I didn't hear that until recently. She *should* have been.

Oh man - Julia Louis-Dreyfus versus Harrison Ford - that sounds entertaining. Instead, Harrison got stuck with his one secret service agent. BNW made so, so many weird choices then reshot right over them.

For once, I'm in total agreement with you. Until they do something to make it impossible to do it, my head canon is that show never happened. Marvel certainly made that easy enough.

I don't know that there were, but the assumption seems to be that Kang was going to be more and more involved in the movies the closer we got to Kang Dynasty, which certainly makes sense. It would be cool to have some kinda book or documentary one day detailing all the changes these movies have gone through, throughout the MCU.
