General Marvel Legends

Marvel Select Cap has the best shield set up I can think of. The shield consists of a small disc that can be worn on the shoulders with straps, and an alternate small disc that can be strapped to the arm/held by a grip hand. Those two set ups can be plugged onto either his round shield or his original triangular shield.

Forgot about that one since I don't own him, but I saw reviews demonstrating this design and I agree that it does seem like the best so far.

Possible solution - before throwing away the Secret Wars lenticular shields, salvage the clips! The orange ones in particular seem like they may be sturdy enough not to break. Silver ones probably not.

Whatever the ideal design is for a shield that can both be held and mounted on the back has yet to be made. The clip/peg combo would be the best if it didn't break so easily and so often. The ones where they don't use stiff plastic seem to mostly work well, but those are also usually injected molded and sometimes have swirly-twirly lines on the clip that break REALLY easily. So we're left with no ideal solution but one that is good only when it doesn't break.
I don't have the Select version, but I think the shield with alternate backs - one with a hook/peg to grip, one with straps - that can be popped underneath a rim on the back of the shield, and also fully removed if you want the shield to be "throwable" without any straps/pegs visible, would be best.

Hasbro could probably sell a shield multi-pack with different backs (straps/hooks), color schemes, and effect shields (like the bullet ricochet one, or a blade striking one) at this point.

I must be lucky. I don’t think ever had a Hasbro shield break. I think I maybe had one or two ToyBiz ones. But I also might just be thinking of the one that came with the 5” MvC Capt which did break and was a reason I got the ML1 version in the first place all those years ago

I've had one or two of the early Hasbro era Cap shield clips break. Since then I've been *very* careful where and how I attach a shield to Cap's arm. Especially with the 80th Caps.

So... got the shipping notice that Best Buy has shipped my Archangel and it should be here Monday. I actually forgot I had ordered him there because they went live with the listing first. I already have one in my Pile of Loot at BBTS... so now I have to decide if I cancel the BBTS one or just keep the extra...

The only shield I had break (so far) was MCU Red Guardian 1. One of the clips snapped off, I think, the 2nd time I tried to attach to his wrist.

I'd bet they think your suggestion is too limiting since you can't mount those shields on Cap's back like you can with the peg/clip combo, and to be fair I haven't seen any other company design a better solution. Medicom Mafex Cap figures do both, but they do it with a separate clear adapter that attaches to the back that fits into both straps and is quite difficult to work with.
I agree that the Legends version is the best. I love the MAFEX Cap but the shield straps suck. For those who aren't familiar, there are two plastic straps for his hand/arm that you pin in to the shield. They fall out incredibly easily.

Basically every single “peg-clip” shield I’ve ever owned has stressed and cracked at the c-clip. Every time.

I've never had one break outright - but all my MOTUC figures' shields (every fucking one had c-clips because the Mattel team were dummies) had white stress marks on the clip within a few months of owning them.

There has to be a solution. Either do like the Select, or even put the peg off-center (so there's still room for the arm) and make the hole on his back match the fit, could work. Sure, you'd still have the peg showing when he's holding it, but it would be less annoying. I know on the old big 12" ML Cap, the peg on the shield was swappable with the straps, and even on his back, you could either plug the back hole with a star-shaped plug or leave the hole open to fit the shield. A little fiddly, but still, I'd much rather have this than the clips. I could see them doing this for the Ultimate. Or honestly, stop being such cheap assholes and give us two different shields, one for his back and one to hold.

Honestly... just put straps on the back of the shield and a hole in the middle. Include a single separate peg that can connect the shield to the back. Or Jesus fuck.. just put the peg on a hinge without the C-clip, so that the peg can point straight out to peg into his back, or can hinge into a J-hook so he can hold it like a handle.

There's so many better options than the worst option they've decided on.
