General Marvel Legends

Got a chance to catch up on the livestream reveals. Has there been enough gushing over that Shuma-Gorath? Because HOLY HELL, that thing looks incredible. They put a ton of love into it, and the scale looks perfect (too big for MvC probably, but exactly how big I want him). And a movable eye? Hell yes.

Other things they showed were also cool. But I've got a Wolverine, Psylocke, Venom, Juggernaut, etc - and I'll have the chance to buy each of those characters again, and again, and again. It's nice to see them execute a character who is most likely a one-and-done at a high level.

I'm a gigantic Marvel vs Capcom fan, and I was burning quarters like a madman in the 1990s all the way from when Capcom released the first in the series X-Men: Children of the Atom straight up through their last arcade release of Marvel vs Capcom 2. I even bought a Sega Dreamcast solely to play Marvel vs Capcom 2 since they didn't release it for Playstation at the time. Shuma-Gorath in the game always bugged me because he was just too small. Why make characters like Blackheart, Juggernaut, or the Sentinel gigantic but then make Shuma tiny as compared to how he's usually depicted?

That question is rhetorical because I think I know the answer. The artists probably shrunk him to make his wild tentacle-extending moves easier to fit on the screen, so they opted for a smaller Shuma that was far more dynamic with his motion. But in an action figure display the space limitations aren't nearly as tight as in a video game screen so I'm just as thankful as you are that his size isn't accurate to the game.

This is one of those situations where I wish I knew how soon/if Hasbro planned to release any other Wolverine's on this body with less dramatic mask/boot fins. I want a few, but not if something skewing closer to comic designs is on the horizon.

The G.I. Joe team revealed their SDCC exclusive today. What do you think will be the Marvel SDCC exclusive this year?

It's not the direction they've been trending lately, but I'd be so stoked for a return to the days of the big SDCC set packed with new characters - the Book of Vishanti, Battle for Asgard, Thanos Imperative, the Raft, Thunderbolts. The one major caveat is that they need to make them more of the hybrid approach we've been seeing the last few years - more of a timed release that is made available in time with SDCC, but still widely released through Pulse and other channels. I know it's not everyone's favorite thing, but those big sets are still some of my favorite things they've done in 20 years of ML.

Big sets if everyone else can get them would be ideal. If not, whacky variants like the Joe team is doing is cool. Not sure what would qualify for Marvel. X-Babies? I could see people being made about not getting them. Fantastic Four in their short-lived red suits?
