Four Horsemen Studios Mythic Legions

Correct.

As unethical as I actually find this; I've taken to actively avoiding learning anything about authors I enjoy. Like.. no, I just need to like this, please.
I've got one author left I need to not be a piece of shit. Everyone else I just don't want to learn more about. And of course I hope I don't let anyone down myself.

I'm going to!

And I know that rant well even before I met you. That's why we all get along.
Part of why I'm pissing and moaning in this thread about the Sonja shit show... I want to be like "no seriously buy the elven muscle mommy it's okay, she's snu-shu-riffic. Also so is the dwarf. I may have a thing for women with triceps I guess."

Yeah, the dwarves are on pre-order from a local.

I want to make my forge cleric. She can go next to Thraice who is actually Nyssa. Then the new Delphina will be my Dragonlance fighter Hawkspar.

The bonus head on the male dwarf is basically my one dwarven ranger character I've been using for like 20 years. I need to find a body for the base dwarven head though because he's great too. I forgot what a pain in the ass it is to find even a used basic figure in this line when they haven't reissued it in a while. I'd pop him onto any of the army builder dwarves just to make use of a good face sculpt.

As far as holding their feet to their fire, I'd personally have no problem asking Eric to credit Bok's wife for the duck art (which was a pretty great helmet design) at the next con we are both at, for what it's worth.
Please Do Not Do This!
Nobody Fucking Do This!

Anyone thinks they’re being a hero or just wants to case shit asking about “why don’t you credit (a talking chicken’s wife) with designing Minotaur the Duck?!?!” will not see the light of heaven.

The matter of Minotaur the Duck is for all intents and purposes settled. The time to give credit was two decades ago, confronting the Horsemen to update a seven year old blog post helps no one.

Edit: Re-read this after posting and I think it sounds too harsh and personally directed which was not my intent. AgentGreen, I’m not trying to imply you would case problems, and sorry if you read it that way, apologies. You seem to mention it out of kindness and I appreciate that. My reaction was to any unknown rabble rousers out there who see this as a means to case more drama and that’s why I overreacted.

(Also I’ve passed along the kind words about Minotaur people have made to my wife and she appreciates them.)

Like, I want to write up my impressions of the Rising Sons but it feels lame to do so during the brouhaha over a ginger.

It’s fun to dunk on the Horsemen, but it’s also fun to enjoy their product.

Neve is good you guys! SHE IS A MUSCLE MAMMA QUEEN ELSA! She’s BIG, she’s slightly bigger than a standard 1.0 male, the only time she hears anyone say “Let It Go!” Is when she’s got her hand wrapped around a tiny man’s throat!

I can’t wait to open up two of my three Scapulars! I’ve had an absolute banger ass idea for a custom using that face place and I can’t wait to crack one open and get started!

I assume the bonus heads come packed in the All-Ins, I’m looking forward to that too. I really want to put the Store Horsemen red haired one on the Highland Warrior and the Retailer Blonde version on the Viking in this wave and have them be a pair of badass battle brothers! (Yes, I know Vikings are not Celts, one of them moved you see…)

I'll probably do some quick bullet points this weekend on the wave, because for all the other stuff happening with 4H right now, Rising Sons is a really solid set.

And thank you for mentioning the red vs blond dwarf head - I had JUST the blond head ordered on BBTS and had ZERO memory of why I ordered it when I had the all-in and would get the packed-in head. I was wondering if I somehow got mixed up and ordered it thinking I missed out on it from direct and that the photo's colors were just mixed up on BBTS. Guess I'll keep that $10 order and find a home for him, too. (As a forever DM I am 100% convinced players sleep on dwarves as player characters, they're ridiculously fun and I've got all these old character concepts I've been sitting on for years and years...)

I was sort of kicking myself for the all-in thinking I only wanted the dwarves and barbarians but Skapular's costume swap is shockingly well done.

All right, I'll buy it. Geez. Bunch of pushers. Mint's a pusher, Cady.

I just finished 16 hour work day and I gotta do something that isn't anger-inducing, so, quick hits on the wave:

Overall: ALL of their feet needed a heat bath. The new style of the fur/soft goods components is much improved from the previous figures.

The northmen:
  • Attlus: nice upgrade in almost every way in the same way all of the newer barbarian/knight bodies are. But I think he suffers a little bit form being over-designed. The left arm, which is I think the same as the new Urzokk? Just feels disjointed and LOOKS like the elbow is inhibited even though it isn't. A bit too busy. He's got some really nice little design elements like the lion on his right boot as a hint to his backstory but I just think he's a little busy.
  • Neve: the female barbarian body is as much an upgrade as the male. Nice musculature. though with the improved bucks, the lack of a bicep swivel is SUPER noticeable.
  • Broddrr: I thought he was a little boring in the photos but in hand I think he's one of my favorites - a nice base look that you can fancy up with his accessories.
  • Regarionn: I wish he was just brute sized, if I'm being totally honest. His paint job is actually MUCH cooler in person, but I misread his description - he's HUGE. I thought he'd be closer to the previous minotaurs in size, but not a bad figure. The tail is a nice touch and unlike the dragons, wasn't a PITA to attach.
  • THE BEAR: First, NOT as big as expected! he's big, he's heavy, but he's about as long as one of hteir horses, not quite as tall, and almost twice as wide. The "feather" look to his fur in the promo shots isn't as feathery - looks better in hand. His legs are very stiff which makes posing hard but I think the stiffer limbs will help keep him from toppling over under his own weight.
The dwarves: Honestly, I can't stop playing with them. Their hands are VERY stiff, and also the description said they'd come with alternate hands and mine did not and did not have a spot for them in the tray - curious if anyone else got them and I got skipped. Some of their nicest faces so far. The bonus head is great - I actually feel bad NOT using the one from the package because they're both solid.

The villains:
  • Skapular is ridiculous. I considered skipping him but he's honestly flat out luxurious. the disguise he comes with is better engineered htan much of their stuff and his kit is pretty unique.
  • Manisha: Solid meh for me. She has some nice detailing here and there but her cloak lacks a way to stay on and the weapons don't really fits her hands well.
  • Yoshanai/the oni: I like him more than I expected, too. the translucent "horns" are a neat effect. I think my only real complaint is I can't tell which hands best hold his weapons - he comes with a tone but some are too loose and some too tight.
  • Diis Paatar: My only real regret in buying him. He's just kind of awkward all around - the claw hands, the scorpion backpack. I wish I hadn't spent the money on him but with the all-in it's less of a regret. Actually his base body is good enough that I think if I put normal armored hands and feet on him I could see making an elf out of him with a spare head, but that's a lot of work.
  • THE UNICORN: I have my beefs with ML here and there but I really do like their horses and this is mostly just that same good base body I like. The barding is bright and striking, and the horned head/main/tail are a niced variation. Part of me cant' decide if I like it better as a black horse or a unicorn. If they weren't so damned expensive I'd get two but not at what they ask for for their horses.
Overall, no real regrets on the barbarians or dwarves; wish I cherry picked the more monstrous characters though.

I did my time as a dwarf. I rarely play the same race twice.

If I were at risk of repeating any race, it'd be tieflings. I love a Dhampir, too.

What used to put me off small races was move speed and weapon rules.

The move speed was especially noticeable on my forge cleric when I wanted to be up front with everybody dropping blessings and hammers on faces.

My repeat race is definitely half-elves, because with my own heritage and upbringing I really feel the walk in Two worlds thing.
