Selling Toys - Horror Stories & "Happy" Customers

I went off on this dude.

"ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY NOT. In what world do you think I would accept that cheapskate cowbell offer?? These are retailing for 180 for all of these. I am losing my ass by selling these at 155. No, fuck off".

Sorry to hear about the.job.

I hate those trades and barters. Not on principal, sometimes you can win.

But I'll be selling Joes and offer is Gundam kits or WWE B listers or Pokemon cards.

What?

Had one dude recently offer up six items to choose for his trade offer.

I was selling a Figma for $80. So he comes up with a bunch of high end metal Gundams, Transformers Masterpieces, and Hot Toys.

I found that kind of suspicious value wise so moved on

Are you for f****** serious? This is the second f****** time.

Selling a lot of 14 figures. 10 bucks a piece. I am fully aware if I did part them out I could more than triple what I'm asking, but I don't have the patience and I just want it out.

"Can you split it? I actually only need W X Yand Z.*

" Nope, it's already priced competitively and you get everything."

"If somebody else wants to buy ABCD, could you get in touch with me and then we could coordinate how to split it."

Or you buy it and you f****** sell off the chaff.

One day I'm going to organize a 5:00 a.m. meetup and weigh these guys down with their action figures at the bottom of Lake Ontario just to save other collectors.

Never heard of Pomeranian Collector Plates. Is this some sort of deep dive niche collector for whom Precious Moments figurines just don't scratch the itch?

Yeah... my mother-in-law was a dog breeder who bred Pomeranians. She won multiple regional dog shows and had a grand champion, so Pomeranian dogs were her life, basically So she collected these damn Danbury Mint collector plates with paintings of Pomeranian Dogs. They are numbered "collectibles". She died 5 years ago and father -in-law died last year so now no one in the family wants these collectibles any more, so its my job to try and sell them.

She did also have some 'precuous moments' style pomeranian figures if you're in the market 🤣

Send those babies right on over to Ebay to brighten some other hoarder's day. I only horde plastic that isn't my credit card.

I went on a spending spree recently on Hot Toys, so I had to sell some stuff to sort of offset the costs. I put up a Hot Toys Clone Wars Obi Wan Kenobi, which is averaging in the $375-$400 range on the sold listings. I put mine at $350 plus shipping, figured it was pretty fair. Within minutes I get an offer - $210. Trying to be nice, and thinking that maybe he meant to hit the 3 instead of the 2, I countered with $340. He then responds with $220 and a note that says "c'mon man, I need this one".

Fucking for real? lol

I messaged him back and said "alright man, I'll tell you what...I'm feeling generous today, so come back at exactly 12pm (it was a little after 10am at that time) and find my listing. At exactly 12, I'll knock down the price to $200 but you'll have to be quick." He was of course extremely excited.

At 11:55, I blocked him. I have no idea if he was waiting with baited breath for 12 to hit, but I really hope he was. The fuck you mean you need this item at $130 off? Feels like I'm taking crazy pills half the time.

Sounds like an addict. Come on man, I need the money.

Right? Some of us are just blocking and moving on with our day while others are getting their jollies.

Most of the time, block and walk is exactly what I do lol But that was just such an insane offer, I couldn't help myself. I really need to start paying attention to the "minimum offer" part, but I usually just leave it at whatever ebay sets it at.

I used to do that, and set it at what I was genuinely willing to take as my minimum offer but finally just turned that off. I'll send offers to people who watch, and those items sell maybe 10% of the time from those offers, but I think most people just want to play Johnny Fuckaround.

This. Soooooo much this lol If I had to guess, I'd say my success rate is probably similar when it comes to sending offers.
