Toys, Tunes and Beer

No intro. Let’s get in to Toys, Tunes and Beer. Finally. Feral. She’s been tops on my need list forever. I’m an unabashed 90s X-Force fan, and have been working on my team for a while now. I’m still rocking that 2018 Cable and Domino. We need some updates for them asap. Back to Feral. A simple figure, but she doesn’t need a ton of accessories. She has extra hands, and that’s it. Those went in a bin though. She’s keeping the claws. Right out of the packaging the articulation was smooth. She hits a great crouching pose easily (and stays!). Head sculpt is great. The big “mane” of hair isn’t over exaggerated like it’s drawn sometimes. The colors are spot on to her comic appearances. I could use a little more sculpted fur in spots, but it’s not a killing point for me. I’m more than happy to have her now though. My team is finally complete…for now.

@fidensbrewing Blueprint IPA. Brewed with Citra, Rakau, and Motueka hops (two are NZ). A fairly citrus forward beer, with some grapefruit bitter at the end. Some herbalness to it, but nothing too overpowering. I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it. Fidens may be my favorite NY brewery, and I’ll keep drinking their stuff until I can’t.

@snapcaseband is one of the “big three” 90s hardcore bands (@earthcrisisofficial and @strife_la being the others), that I’ve been listening to since they were new. This album is a masterpiece though. Beginning to end is a nonstop musical assault to all of your senses. One of the tightest sounding bands I can think of. Every guitar riff is met with an accentuating drum beat. The power behind it all leaves me speechless. Snapcase is another band I was lucky to have seen live back in the day (yes with Chris in Albany). I can still remember the build up their opening chant “Incarnation!” It just blew up from there. This album sits easily in my top five hardcore albums of all time.

Overall ratings. Figure 5:5. Beer 4.25:5. Album 5:5.

Exactly. I was wondering if I'd get any backlash for tagging Earth Crisis in a beer review post on IG.

Feral really looks like a great compromise given some.of the exaggerated ways she's been drawn. I also always admire how big an X-Force fan you are while balancing a sensible opinion of Liefeld.

I can admit that teenage me had little to no taste in comic artwork. I never read anything prior to X-Force #1, so I had no idea who any of these characters were and I fell in love with them from there. Cable especially. I read X-Force religiously for a couple of years, and then the original Cable solo series. This is why I'm hoping we get more characters from this era. I want all those Six-Pack teammates, and GW Bridge. Now that Feral is here, my biggest want from that era is Garrison Kane.

It’s Saturday night. So you know where your children are? No? Me either. Here’s some Toys, Tunes and Beer, Holiday Edition. I grabbed this Daredevil when I got Feral, mostly in hopes of using the head for a season 1/3 Netflix Daredevil custom I’m (still) working on. I don’t think it’ll work…but who knows. The figure itself is pretty nice. I’m pretty sure it’s all new sculpt. I like the bagginess of the sweat suit, it gives Matt some bulkiness he normally isn’t shown with. I’m not sure where he fits in my collection, but I do like the figure over all.

Fidens was my drink of choice this Thanksgiving, especially this one. Turkeys in the grain bin is a nice double IPA from those guys in Albany, with Citra, Simcoe, and Comet (they’re outta this world!). A lot of citrus from the Citra and Comet, with some grassy/piney flavor from the Simcoe. I’d say it’s easy drinking, but at 8% a few of these will only make finding the floor easy. That reminds me, I’m a professional don’t try this at home.

I have such a love/hate relationship with @blink-182 . I appreciate where they’ve gotten in their career, but this album is the Blink I know and love. Songs about break ups, ends of relationships, spying on your crush from a tree, and Lando Calrissian. I may have sang “Dammit” at a karaoke bar in my early 20s, and poorly at that. This album being back a lot of memories and feelings of the time of my life. I certainly have some things I’m not too proud of, but when you look back it’s all just a big learning curve anyways. I guess that’s kinda how Blink may look at it all. Good times, but now you’ve moved on to bigger and better things.

Overall ratings. Figure 4.25:5. Beer 4.25:5. Album 4.75:5.

Blink-182 is unabashedly one of my favorite bands.
I like their current stuff. It's creative, and shows how they've grown as musicians and songwriters. I just still love their songs about dick and fart jokes, and prank calling your GFs mom. Dude Ranch, and Enema of the State are my favorite albums from them. The radio station I listen to at work plays What's My Age Again, and All the Small Things at least twice a day.

They've still got it, too. Their last album has at least two all-timers.

I came in around Take Off Your Pants and Jacket & self-titled, but I can't say I have a favorite era. They've been solid from the jump. Hoppus and DeLonge are legitimately two of the best American songwriters.
