ML Secret Wars

I think we all remember a few toys we had as kids that had a cool little action feature or gimmick that we loved. And I think those belong right where they likely already are - in the kids lines we all quickly brush past to see which Legends are on the shelf at Target and Walmart.

I absolutely hated the action features on the old ToyBiz figures back in the day. But I've picked up a few oldies out of nostalgia lately, and have to say I actually enjoy them now. ...it's scratching a "kitsch itch" so to speak.

I wouldn't want them on my more "serious" action figures" (lol), but they seem right on the pre Spider-Man classics stuff to me. Doom with his spinning arm, Thor with the hammer throwing action, Venoms "ooz action" and spideys suction cups is really taking me back to the 90's!

You know what, I would like to see some of these just because you know the majority of YouTubers of note are going to fumble and fumble hard with basic children's interactables, and I'm here for that.

I still have this guy on my fridge all these years later.

I think the "action feature" gimmick COULD work if they were alternate accessories, but only for a select few characters. Take Spider-Man, for example. You can give him fist hands, web-shooting hands, and "wall crawling" posed hands with suction cups on them. If you don't like the hands with suction cups, fans could use the other hands. Or you could make a Cyclops with the light-up eyes like Toy Biz used to do. Or you could have a Doctor Octopus where two of the tentacles had the "gripping" pincers feature and/or the other two tentacles had suction cups, but they could be interchangeable snap-on accessories at the ends. Or the "quick change" armor pieces for Iron Man. For some, the "action feature" wouldn't work and fans likely wouldn't want them, like Dr. Doom's spinning hand, Human Torch's "throwing" arm for his fireball accessories or the Hulk's "crushing arm" feature. That said, I wouldn't mind a new figure of the Thing with a Yancy Street street sign accessory.

If they wanted to REALLY divide fans and go retro, they could always do the "electronic" wave from Toy Biz where you had eight popular figures with a speaker box you could stick onto their back that would have two phrases and a sound effect included.

For the new Retro "Secret Wars", I'm surprised they didn't let the Wolverine figure have alternate hands with the claws painted black like the Mattel variant did in 1984. Maybe if they make a Retro "Secret Wars" figure of Doc Ock, they could include an alternate head with black hair like the Mattel figure had.

The temperature is basically that scene in the Day After Tomorrow where the cold is visibly chasing the guy.
Those characters thinking they can outrun WEATHER still brings me joy. Hilariously silly - but great visual!

My desk at home, at this very moment. I had these guys on my self-designated “Spider-Man” lamp (just a little blue, metal lamp), but the lamp didn’t make it to the replacement desk I built in December, so they get to hang out on the metal frame of the new desk instead.

I would love more figures with magnets. There were recent Spider-Verse import figures (Sentinel, I think) that had swappable feet with magnets.
