Yeah, I’ll die on this hill with you. Comics in general need to do a better job of attracting new fans. The large Barnes and Nobles near my house has four shelves of American graphic novels and about ten shelves of Manga.Counterpoint: “basic” means “kids”. And we all benefit from new generations of kids getting excited about these characters. I, for one, want there to still be a Batman long after I am personally stardust and irrelevant.
Did Todd remove himself from the Walmart toy aisle, or was he ejected and his last ditch save was Electronics? It also seems as though Todd has attempted to poison the well and salt the earth. He’s flooded the zone with Batman product, and removed himself from the toy aisle in Wal Mart. And by putting out some of this crazy character selection, he’s raised the profile of these types of characters to the buying public. I’m getting Captain Carrot and Guardian from Todd. I don’t really want another Green Lantern or Superman now.
And what is 6.5in figures, 1/12th scale? I know 1/10 is 7in like what Todd does, but is Mattel intending to just make their whole line a half inch shorter on average than Todd's
I think this is a move to ensure that he can hold onto DCD in some capacity going forward. Busts, statues, props, fine art prints, and miscellaneous higher end merch. Low production run, exponential markup type stuff.Did Todd remove himself from the Walmart toy aisle, or was he ejected and his last ditch save was Electronics?
Honestly, that sentence right there is why Todd lost the license. He lost the toy aisle!
but I just keep coming back to the aspect of starting over again. Again.
This is the other possibility for me. The figures I've enjoyed most in the last few years aren't long time wants like Ragman and Kiteman, but my Knightfall Mafex Batman and Mezco's Dick Tracy figures. I've been eyeing that Mafex Azrael Batman for a while now. Seems worth way more than 3 or 4 McFarlanes, honestly...I'm a Superman and Batman guy, those are my top 2. I'll probably pick up Mattel versions of them just to toss them on a generic Superman/Batman shelf. But I'm not starting over and rebuilding teams, I'm generally done with the mass market toy aisle DC stuff when the license changes. I just have too much invested in McFarlane to want to start over with another company. However, I will be continuing to buy better product from other companies.
And before anyone says "they cost too much" once you go for quality over quantity you'll see how bad that argument is lol
The Mafex AzBats is really, really good. Very nice figure, and they just re-released it. Their Reign of the Supermen stuff has been good, too. This is the other possibility for me.
