Mattel DC Figures

Yes! If I could only get one of them, it'd be her. I mean, her first appearance has got to be one of DC's most underrated covers & issues:

It has an almost Barbarella feeling to it.

Dolphin always makes me think of the lite-fantasy shows that TeenNick/The-N used to import, like H2O, the Australian one about mermaids. I always think she would make a ton of sense as a featured character on a DC streaming show. (Hell, make one about some of their environmental heroines, team her up with Vixen and Poison Ivy.)

Jay Scott Pike. Notorious "Good Girl Artist" with that classic cover.

I read Absolute Martian Manhunter. For Javier Rodriguez's amazing artwork (Marvel is insane for flubbing their relationship with Rodriguez). Not sure I'd need a figure of anyone. Manhunter is borderline metaphorical in the comic.

I’m truly surprised that Dolphin hasn’t shown up in Aquaman yet. Just about everyone else in the DCU who can breathe under water or is associated with Atlantis has. It’s an excellent read and I hope they let Jeremy go nuts with the story.

Jay's romance comic covers used to really cook. We need to bring that entire genre back.

Rodriguez is SO GOOD. I think MM really should be one of those characters that people treat as an art-first character or at least a distinct-approach character. As a solo character, he's a little too taciturn and disconnected to just do a trad superhero book with. But that means he's always been in this sort of uncomfortable space as the sure-I-guess Justice League guy (or more accurately, the Justice League guy you drop for a Black character when the Green Lantern you chose is white) when he's got mystical and cerebral vibes that lend themselves to truly weird and unique comic approaches. He should be more in a Swamp Thing space than a Superman one, basically. Maybe even a bit Dr. Strange-ish - I remember an issue where he was at the center of Joker's mind with Batman, and Batman couldn't handle the fact that there was this sort of core space of sanity and peace locked away in there of all places, and that felt like such a Dr. Strange kind of moment.

I took one look at Wonder Woman and her stupid-as-fuck sword and decided that, clearly, Absolute is not for me.
I think you'd like it, but no one's lack of enjoyment of it ruins mine so I'm not going to put a giant impractical magic sword to your throat or anything.

Whole line is the only thing I'm giving DC money for because I enjoy their comics for the first time in a long time.

I just get the rest on the high seas.

I liken it to certain other artistic styles in comics, video games, and animation; if looking at it sufficiently bothers me, I simply cannot enjoy it even if the story itself is stellar.

What did Marvel do to Rodriguez? I absolutley love his work.
I guess I don't really know but it seemed he was working nearly exclusive for Marvel and now seems to work exclusively for DC. I may be wrong. His work is great for both companies. Best "superhero" cartoonist working.

From what I’ve heard, Marvel pays less than DC pretty much across the board unless your name is Jonathon Hickman. Disney doesn’t pay royalties for stuff used in movies and on TV. And are starting to snub comic creators outright. Apparently Rob Liefeld couldn’t get into the Deadpool/Wolverine after party after the premiere. Not that I give two shits about Liefeld, but c’mon. Co-creator of a nearly 3 billion dollar BO franchise?

Again, hearsay. But if even remotely true, it’s bad. I remember McFarlane saying he got a nice check from DC/Warners for a character he barely remembered creating for appearing on the Stargirl TV show. Shiv I believe is who he was referring to. By contrast, he gets nothing for co creating Venom. Zero. Zip. Nada.

Part of the reason why Image formed in the first place.

I understand that the MCU is a literal juggernaut. Doubtful that changes anytime soon. Unless there’s another Eternals like shit-the-bed scenario. Beyond that, I think they’re golden. Wonder Man seems to have temporarily saved the MCU TV division.

But the wheels seem to be coming off of the publishing side. Pure speculation on my part, but if Hickman defects to DC, or just decides to go full time creator owned, it could get real ugly, real fast at Marvel. I mean Brevoort is giving interviews talking about fans being pissed off or apathetic. Ideally, you shouldn’t have either.
