Masters of the Universe: Origins

Saw this on reddit, I guess it's a custom off eBay. I firmly believe all MotU characters need steeds, and this is a fun one:

Reading the old mini-comics, it's hilarious how often they swap mounts. In the last one I read, He-Man changed mounts no less than three times, it was like every two pages he was on something new. The Sky Sled is so goofy, but even Stratos is saying things like, "sometimes it's better to fly on a machine!" as he sails across the sky, like we're gonna rush out and buy a Sky Sled for our one flying good guy.

I for the life of me don't have the slightest recollection of ever reading, seeing, or owning any MOTU mini-comics as a kid. Maybe I threw them away with the packaging? Maybe we got specially packaged MOTU figures in the South that didn't include the mini-comics because Mattel thought we couldn't read anyway?

It's so weird because I have many vivid memories of when and how I got a lot of the figures and how I played with them but nothing on the comics.

That's interesting. Maybe your focus was so strong that you didn't notice them. Either way, the compendium is a lot of fun and recommended. Hard not to cheer for cheeky underdog Skeletor.

I remember the comics well enough to say they are what informed my MOTU fandom as a kid, much more than the cartoon. Much like this old MOTU storybook - when people talk about the MOTU theme they're usually thinking the cartoon, I'm thinking of *this*, which has been stuck in my head since I was like 7 years old.

My mom was a bit weird about things and I kind of wonder if she opened them for me and confiscated the comics thinking they were a bad influence or I was too young or something. But she let me watch the show all the time so probably not.

Does anyone remember and love the Goldenbooks narrated picture.. story.. things? They were like cartoons but just using still images from the Goldenbooks stories.

My MotU childhood memories are definitely about the toys more than anything else. Of course I saw the cartoon, but I can't remember any specific episodes or anything like that. And I saw the movie more than once, but it was always a letdown to child-me and it's not anything I ever revisit.

The one episode I can vividly remember from childhood is the one where Teela falls into the abyss below Grayskull. Most of the rest are memories from watching it later in life.

I didn't see the movie as a child but I know with 100% certainty that I would have hated it then just like I hated the TMNT movies. I did see it for the first time about 10 years ago and enjoyed it as an adult.

See, I loved the TMNT movies as a kid (not the third one). Of course I wished they'd had Bebop and Rocksteady, but I watched the shit out of that VHS of the first film to the point I even still remember the commercials that played before it started.

Oh yeah. I have a few of them. These and Power Records are to blame for my present day addiction to audiobooks.
