There was supposed to be a really cool line of Cryptid figures in, I want to say, 2000, 2001 by a company called Nevermore Toys. First series was Mothman, Jersey Devil, MoMo the Missouri Monster, and Chupy.

The line was supposed to be 6 inch scaled monsters with bases and "victims". They really leaned into the Chupacabra being a weird lizard creature aesthetic.

These ended up never being released.

I guess back in 2013, this guy tried a Kickstarter of this series, and only ended up delivering MoMo, sans victim and base, before disappearing into the void--as these guys often do.

Oh no, I think he shipped more than just MoMo - I received the Chupacabras. It was crap. It was essentially made of chalk and crumbled right out of the box.

Those McF Monsters sets LIT UP MY WORLD in college. So damn cool . . . although there was a QC issue where Dracula frequently broke at the peg of his arm into the torso . . . I went through a few Draculas. The Frankenstein sets had an unabashed Hammer vibe that RULED. And: To date, one of the very few attempts to present a book-accurate Phantom of the Opera with a noseless corpse-face instead of weird burns. And Steve the Victim in the Werewolf set! Best action feature ever: you could dismember him!
Yeah, all of them had QC issues, but those were cool sets.

I had those, the first McFarlane Monsters.

They were so much fun. I honestly regret selling them. But you are correct, working, falling chandelier.

I frikken' LOVED those sets. I've almost re-bought them several times, but just don't have the room for them. I worked for Sony PC's back then and my work desk was covered with those sets.

Too bad. That would've been our best Swamp Thing figure to date.

I had all 8 of the Monsters sets, plus the Spawn movie sets; and I keep buying that goddamned Mummy set every time I see it at shows. That's the best of them all, imho; with the best bits for scavenging to try making a fully-articced proper action figure with as I keep trying and failing to accomplish (damn you all to hell, Todd, you make unplayable dogshit for 30years and were forced into accepting the very concept of articulation, you dumb useless bastard). But anyways, now I've got a collection of them spiffy caskets to rival the British Museum!

I need to try again with that Lagoon Monster now I've some meager sculpting skills.

I liked Creatureplica; I've got the Skookum from that line and it's nice. They made some choices I didn't love (like the Yeti having bare patches of skin on its torso), but I do wish they'd kept going long enough to make some of the other figures they'd been planning, like the Gray Alien and Mothman (which was going to be a statue, but I'm sure if the line had been more successful they would have done a figure). While I do like the Cryptoid Shadow Mothman (and ordered one), I would love to get a straight, "realistic" 1/12 Mothman figure.

Also, maybe we need to start a Cryptids thread or something...

He'd sculpted a bunch for that line that never saw the light of day. There was a classic 50's Mars Attacks adjacent alien and a Wendigo as well. I was never hot on the Mothman design. I know everyone is trying to stick to that hunched head, boxy shoulder design, but I feel like you can just take the broad strokes and go further afield for a better look.

I never ended up with any of the Creatureplicas, even though severa looked pretty good to me. Now of course the articulation is pretty chunky, and I think LC has improved on the visual design of everything they did put out.

Creatureplicas might be coming back, Jean St.Jean showed the unreleased second wave at a toy show in Hong Kong recently, he’s part of the collective that made that Predator-Dark Souls-Destiny-Cenobite looking figure from a few months ago.

Oooh interesting - got any links?

They did, I have that and all the other statues they’ve released with Small Town Monsters. Repaints of those and a few other new ones like Patty are available from Jean.

Fun personal fact: the STM headquarters is actually in the next town over from me. Like 10 minute drive. I know Seth Breedlove. Well, knew. We had a falling out. But yeah.
