This is what acceptance looks like coming from me. Would I still like Todd to keep the license? Sure. I like the product, the aesthetic, and the direction we’re heading. My complaints about changing vendors all the time have been explained and are well founded in my view. But Mattel getting the rights back is probably for the best long term. Todd’s “seat-of-his-pants-flying” won’t work much longer given the moves DC is making and the shift in the media landscape of late. DC needs a true partner for merchandise in the coming years and Todd is ill fitting at best.
I’ve essentially retired. I didn’t plan it this way, but it’s worked out well so far. My stress levels have cratered. I’m not Chicken Little and the sky isn’t falling. But trying to game out the next evolution in my head is what I do. Can’t help it. If there’s not enough of the usual suspects involved done in the traditional templates, you’ll have to pardon me.
I’ve recently started buying up some Marvel Legends. Werewolf by Night, Phantom Rider, ROM, Man-Wolf and others in that vein are what I’ve been purchasing. Avoiding the big players like the plague. That’s the mindset I have going forward.
