A friend challenged me today. He said "Name your 5 favorite Classified Figures. Don't look at the shelf, don't think to much, just name them fast, then tell me why after."

I now pass this challenge on to you. Go with your gut.

My answer was:
Tripwire - Since the moment he showed up I loved him. The gear, especially with the ability to just swap it, is awesome. He's everything i love about Classified in one figure.
Original SE - Still my default Snake Eyes. I have swapped out his laser guns for different ones, but otherwise he is my favorite version of this toy, and still one of the ones i get down to mess with first.
Snow Job - Not even a character i had much of an affinity for, but the toy just knocked my socks off. Again it was just the way that they added the alternatives that all just feel so obvious and easy. wonderful toy, and he's going to go GREAT with my Snowcat
Original Duke - Again when he first hit i was just floored. He moved well, posed well, came with cool gear. I even liked his rifle; it was one of the "laser" guns that lasted the longest for me in my collection. In fact I even modded the barrel to make it look more like a regular rifle for awhile. But the toy itself is just everything I liked about a toy distilled. He had some cool gear, moved well and looked cool. I only swapped him for the Retro Duke because of the alt hands and torso rocker, and even then i swapped on the gear from the OG.
Clutch - For an articulated accessory for the VAMP, I couldn't believe how much Clutch worked for me. The head sculpt, the gear the whole VIBE of the figure just clicked so hard for me. He's still one of my favorite figures to take down and mess with, and has been since the day he arrived.

So how about you guys?

This isn't fair because I have a terrible memory and REALLY bad object permanency issues. So there's a good chance I will straight up forget something exists at all, even if it's one of my favorite figures. But I'll give it a shot. Right off the top of my head it's...

V4 Snake Eyes
Ninja Force Zartan
Desert Scorpion
Night Viper
Budo

Why is easy because it mostly all boils down to these being really excellent upscaled interpretations of some of my all-time favorite ARAH figures. Hilariously, I don't really think I'd call any of them Hasbro's BEST Classified figures. Just my favorites. But I'm also sure I'm missing someone important because that's how my brain (doesn't) work.

Nice!

For mine... I think:

-Storm Shadow, the Cobra version. One of the first Classified figures I got and still love him. He and Snake Eyes were my only Classified for a couple years.
-Firefly, Baroness, and Major Bludd, were three of my favorite villains I never had as a kid and love having now.
-Night Viper. Always my favorite of the viper specialists and love the new version too. Probably get a retro redo if they offer that too

Me theory is the good ones stick in the memory anyway. Im sure if i turned and looked at my shelf Id think of other figures better than the ones i named, but those are the ones that came out as a feeling.

I mean Lowlight is my favorite Classified figure, and I didnt even think of him till this second, so clearly its not a perfect system :D :D

ADHD object impermanence is definitely a real issue. My Joes are put away right now and, without significant effort, and a pen and paper, I could not tell you which ones I own. At least not a definitive list. It's probably not surprising, in that case, that everyone on my list is -relatively- new.

I like playing peek-a-boo with Damien. He gets so lost when I put my hands in front of my face.

Oof, top 5?

Retro Cobra Commander- CC is probably my favorite Joe character. This is exactly what I've waited so long for.

Sgt Slaughter- such a well done figure that was kind of a surprise to get when he came out

Retro Scarlett- the original Scarlet was so far off of what I envision as Scarlet, this one is a great update of her original look.

Retro Duke- see Scarlet. His original Classified figure wasn't as far off as hers, but even though I don't think Duke is all that interesting of a character, he's a pretty definitive figure of the Joe leader.

Shipwreck- was tempted to leave him off because there's maybe a thing or two I'd change on him. But at the end of the day he's my favorite Joe and it's a pretty great figure of him.

Destro almost made it. But I feel like my little fix ups on him are what make me like him so much but that would feel like cheating.

I've really enjoyed the divers for some reason. I love my fix-up of the Legacy diver, but once again, that feels like cheating.

Jesus H. Macy this is TOUGH. I just love this line top to to bottom. If I had to choose:

000 Snake Eyes. The one that started it all. Just a beloved figure. Only way to make him perfect would be to have had him come with Timber in the first iteration, but he has his sidekick now.
Retro Scarlett. Just a grail figure because I never got to have the OG Scarlett as a kid.
Chuckles. I fucking LOVE this figure. I love his accessories. I love his head sculpt. I love his sassiness. He is beautiful.
Doc. Another figure I never had as a kid so he completes a wish list, and he's so well done. SO well done.
Croc Master. Under no circumstances did Hasbro have to go this hard on this figure, but they did, and he's amazing.

Characters who should be in my top five but aren't because I had to buy them more than once or do serious surgery to fix those early fucked up hips: Destro (both OGs) Zartan (all but Ninja) Firefly (the Retro was floppy, the new version had a stuck hip), Spirit (gutted when I got bad hip on him).

What fix-up did you do?

It wasn't anything too crazy and I'm trying to remember what all exactly I did. But I know it was a lot of just making him sleeker by removing a lot of his bulky gear and replacing it with Torpedo's. I think that might be a different gun than what he came with? Or maybe just added a silencer. I know the most "complicated" part was swapping out the mouth pieces from one facemask to the other. I wanted Torpedo's breathing tubes that went around to the back on the clear goggles of the Legacy figure.

Was aiming for something of an homage to the Action Force SAS diver and the ended up really happy with the results. Maybe partially increased by the waiting game of getting both the Legacy diver and Torpedo for a cheap enough price for me to bite.

That looks really good, BW. I like the diver because of all his gear, but also I find all of his gear makes him kind of an annoying figure to do anything with. I dig what you did to still enjoy some of the geared-up feel while not having him weighed down by so much shit.

Tough to separate my favorite characters with what my favorite Classified figures would be. Sometimes I just think a figure is really good, even though I have little attachment.

Shipwreck
Cover Girl (retro)
Outback
Tunnel Rat
Footloose
Snow Job
Alpine
Spirit

Zarana
Major Bludd
Tomax/Xamot
