X-Men '97

I think with Beast it was to make him more 'monsterish', more Beast-ly. A black furred hulk of a creature would strike fear - a stark contrast from Hank's nerdy scientist personality.

With Nightcrawler, I do think it was to go with the name ... a black figure who can skulk in the dark of night.

Those are guesses of course. Maybe someone can ask Gerry Conway about the Beast decision if he makes a con appearance or something.
I used to think it was a nod to Beastly, as you say, and specifically playing into the Beast of Gevaudan, which was described as dark furred during its reign of eating things

I love how Pulse, if you pay with Paypal, charges you a few days before telling you but Paypal DOES tell you, so you've got a "you've been charged X dollars" email with no clarification of which figure is shipping. Which is a long winded intro to saying I noticed I can't cancel Emma Frost from this wave so she's the one I was just charged for--very much looking forward to this wave but I didn't love playing detective to figure out who is shipping first.

I saw a post on YouTube from Nerdzoic that said he was expecting these and other Hasbro releases this coming week. I’m guessing more places will be shipping relatively soon.

I got a notice from Pulse Emma is on the way too. I was shocked, because I never got an e-mail saying she would be shipping soon, or that her shipping date changed ahead of the e-mail saying she'd shipped like I usually do.

But I'll allow it. I almost didn't get Emma since I have all her comic Legends figures. But the head sculpt on this X-Men 97 Emma is just so good.

Got Emma and Morph.

I’m pleased for the articulation upgrades on Emma’s arms but really don’t care for the seam line down the boots on this version, seems very much a “different for the sake of being different” design choice. The heads are nice though.

It irks me that they made Morph’s shoulder pegs locked in to a hinged torso, makes this figure really awkward for custom potential as I only want the heads. The legs boil and pop off so there’s re-use options there but I don’t think I want to reuse the hinged torso along with the jacket, might have to crack it open and extract the pegs.

Now that they are doing cup and ball shoulders on some figures, I would like to see this becoming how they do shoulder articulation on characters with coats and jackets, it would help fix the issue of seeing torso colour showing through the gaps around the shoulder and also make these more versatile for part swapping.
