X-Men '97

Found a case of Cyclops reissue at EB today, and he was the last I needed, (just wanted Kurt and Rogue, etc. was skipping this series, you know how it goes), so I found the best own and leapt.

Lot of messed up X logos, but I got the good one. Fun figure to pose, what I expect should be a Hasbro standard pack out. Find his face a bit boyish, though? I think it's the chin.

Whatever, yet another Blue Team (mas y menos) complete.
I didn’t know they were reissuing Cyclops. I already have one, but might get an extra if I see one.

Yeah I’m totally fine on the sentinel delay I just spent $1000 on a gigantic Godzilla 1984 statue from Spiral studio last month and also about half of the MvC figures have arrived, the SDCC savage land set, some street fighter figures from Jada have landed and a few DC figures from McFarlane have hit all at once and I could use these next couple of months to be quiet. The only figures I hope to have to pay for between now and December are the remaining Gamerverse Capcom figures, wave 3 of X-Men 97 along with the 2-packs, the Nanmu studio super articulated 1/24th scale T-Rex figures that just went up, the Sentinels and the SHF scarlet spider figure. The latter three of which should be hitting in December-Q1 2026.

Yep July and August were super expensive months thanks to the Snow C.A.T. Haslab and a bunch of preorders coming in seemingly all at once. So having the Sentinel pushed back to December is good for the wallet (though so close to Christmas not so much, how about January?).

Honestly even if Hasbro decided to push the Sentinel back to March or April 2026 and release it around the same time when Disney+ drops X-Men 97 season 2 I’d be more than happy with that. It would be a hell of a way to kick off that week.

I hope not - I really want them in hand when Wave 3 hits, so I can re-do the whole display with all the new additions. Plus, hopefully, the Deluxe Bastion and Beast.

Do I want to pay for them between now and then? Absolutely not. But I do want them ASAP.

I was very excited when that Cable review popped up on my YouTube feed, just to get a better look at the figure. I wish I liked his head a bit more, but aside from that, he looks perfect! I bought an extra, to do a head swap & maybe dirty up the paint a little. I just love the animated series suit & proportions.

The same channel posted a look at Emma. Not a great review as he doesn't even show the hip articulation, but if it's the same legs and hips as the prior release then I guess those with that figure know what to expect. Looks like the waist joint doesn't really work on his which is a bummer. She's probably going to be more of a statue than action figure, but given the big, plastic, cape and high heels I wasn't really expecting to pose her much.

Hey, it's Kevin. He was the admin on one of my Toronto toy groups. Just saw him at the con, too.

That Emma is a major glow up from the HFC set Emma. I'll find a soft goods solution, but otherwise she looks and poses as I expect.

Target still had the sticker up for the sale they had on Jean last week. So I was able to snag a couple for $17. Im gonna probably display one with each head and use the extra big hair version on Shanna and see how it fits and looks. I hope its good. If not I unno, maybe I'll take it back or something.

Edit* Well upon inspection of my figures they both have the x painted wrong on her torso. Looks like it may be a widespread thing. Awesome. I'm gonna try to fix the paint on one and see how it turns out. Probably won't keep the other though.

Got my wave 3 from EB Mooselandia.

Quick hits:

Logan is okay. Just reuse of the Sabertooth two pack but with a jacket. Looks like the cartoon, but outside of nostalgia, nothing exciting. I do think his stubble is better executed than on the alt head for Wolverine.

Morph is cool. My favourite head is the human Sidney, as it looks like very young Gerard Way. To be fair, that's not accurate to the cartoons at all, if you remember his prominent cheekbones, and I kind of wish we had gotten the brainwashed head just for nostalgia, but it's cool. The skinny body looks great in the animated aesthetic.

Sunspot. Unexpected highlight for me. He's got the butterfly. It's a nice clean body, but the boots and gloves have cuff depth. Head sculpt is ripped from the TV. Fun little fire effects. I can see painting the bubbles on the fire black for that comic look. Would I have preferred him powered up... Now that I have him in hand, I don't know. I think this works. Mine has a little blue smudge on the yellow chest, but maybe he's charred.

Emma is gorgeous. Definite across the board upgrade from the HFC in terms of quality of play, and the head sculpts are sensational. Disney Princessesque. Like damn, they are killing this aesthetic and I wish they'd get to stylize more. Paint is so clean on the corset when in the past you know that would be a miss on most copies. I have two. It's cleeeean across the board.

Jubilee. Yeah it's not the classic knock off Robin look. The one thing I would complain about with the execution is the zipper is supposed to run down to her navel on the cartoon and it's only on the torso part here. It's an abrupt cut either way when you look at the design but I did wish they ran it down more. Everything else about it is perfect and again just ripped from the television. The only thing you could improve with this would be another bubble gum head, but these new effects - which do have the paint Sunspot lacks - and the freaking soda cup. Stellar.

Cable. The wild man of Borneo himself. This is how I remember the guy from the books and the cartoon. I might have preferred the glowing eye that we had with the previous cable. And I wish there was stubble. Which is accurate to the card art but not accurate to the actual show if I recall. But again, this guy is clean.

And the guns. The little paint apps make a big difference and the sculpts themselves just take me right back to 93.

Damn. It's funny because I didn't want to go into the 97 line so I am missing quite a few heavy hitters like Bishop, who I saw and was just like nah, I'm too good for this line. But then I went back and got a few and now I think this might be the best X-Men product Hasbro has put out. It's not really cartoon nostalgia. I just really love one figures shoot for a style and this nailed it.

Yeah, there's a definite rise in quality with the '97 figures. They're not just putting the same reused stuff in the packages. They're giving each figure attention. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on each. I'm looking forward to getting mine whenever they show up, maybe in a month?
