Music, podcasts, audiobooks, whatever!

I alternate between podcasts and music while I work. Right now I'm listening to a lot of Bad Religion, Pogues/Shane MacGowan, Pixies/Frank Black, Neutral Milk Hotel, REM and an 80's covers playlist I put together:

I think it was someone on the Proboards forum that recommended the "Old Gods of the Appalachia" podcast and I got into that last week and I'm really enjoying it. So whoever you were, thanks for the recommendation.

Oh nice. I have trouble getting into scripted podcasts sometimes, but I will definitely give this a try. I really enjoyed the true crime podcast, Appalachian Mysteria, so I've got a taste for that flavor. I also used to live in Southwestern Pennsylvania, pretty close to the WV border. Had a few friends from that area that used to talk about Appalachian lore. Interesting stuff.

I've spent a lot of time in the Appalachians over the years so it all scratches an itch for me. Those mountains are such an old and mysterious place.

I mostly listen to music when writing... Or doing dishes and such. Playlist is currently a lot of Lou Reed, Pearl Jam, The Kills, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Concrete Blonde, Black Keys, Labrys, Clannad, Morcheeba, Kaleo, Exitmusic, Mothica, and started listening to Mazzy Star again too heh.

95% of what I listen to is punk rock. I'm a big Bad Religion fan.
Right on. Bet we have similar tastes in punk.

Good stuff! I've been listening to Fade Into You way too much. It's soul crushing and so nostalgic. Had a huge crush on Hope Sandoval back in the day.

Yeah, it's still their best song but they have several others I feel are worth hearing. She also had another band more recently that I got into a bit, Warm Inventions.

I fucking LOVE music. There's very little I don't listen to. Country and most forms of rap/hip-hop aren't really my thing, with the occasional exception. Besides that, I'm pretty open to everything. But deep down, I'm a Goth and Metal kind of guy, punctuated by some of my big musical influences growing up like Nirvana, Bon Jovi, and GNR.

When I used to be out in the field for work, prior to being an office guy, I used to give the other guys whiplash when my music was going. It would be like a low, rumbling 20 minute doom metal song, then thrash or speed metal, then blackened death metal, then like a Taylor Swift song, Elton John, a Bon Jovi, and then 15 more minutes of someone chainsawing through a series of guitars while singing a manner reminiscent of a frog that used to smoke a lot in the middle of a Satanic ritual.

I've been listening to the new Frantic Amber album, which is pretty good. Finished up the new Arch Enemy which was okay but .. I dunno.. less than I expected/hoped. The new album from Underoath was really good. The newish Dorothy album was a lot of fun, too. Also found myself listening to some nostalgia stuff like Nine Inch Nails and LA Guns recently. I listen to a lot of my music these days in the truck while I'm driving to work/home, or between jobsites/meetings, so it can get a little bit of a pain as I'm in and out of the vehicle and all that. Hoping maybe tomorrow I'll be driving enough to get through the new Cradle of Filth. They haven't really had a truly bad album so I'm sure this one will be good too.

When I was a teenager, me and my best friend Mike used to drive back and forth in front of this military base near where we lived just BLARING Anti-Flag. Specifically, obviously, Die For The Government. Mike was my first big influence for listening to punk and non-mainstream types of metal. But our early friendship was like 3 straight months of Anti-Flag, NOFX, Social Distortion, and Operation Ivy. Good stuff, man.

Heck yeah. Still have Social D, Op Ivy and NOFX in heavy rotation. Used to (and still) also listen to a ton of Propagandhi, Good Riddance, Strung Out, Bouncing Souls, H2O, DKM, Face to Face etc etc. I have an eclectic taste in music too but punk will forever hold a place in my heart and ears.

@akajomiha Propagandhi has a new album coming out.

I listen to everything you guys mentioned, and more pop-punky, melodic stuff. The Menzingers, Spanish Love Songs, Against Me!, The Wonder Years, and blink-182 are my heaviest rotation lately.

Very much not punk, but I'm also loving Chappell Roan.

Chappell Roan is great. I actually also really like Sabrina Carpenter. I find it absolutely hilarious and weirdly endearing that basically her entire shtick is that she's short and horny. Hilarious. You go girl.

Love Against Me! and LJG.

Man, I need to listen to newer music more. With a few exceptions, I'm a bit stuck in my comfort zone/era. Most of the newer stuff I like was introduced to me by my kids.
