U.S. Politics

Trump being alive and disgracing himself and continuing to turn off his own base by saying stupid, vile shit is far more useful to the Left than a dead martyr. Absolutely. Dead Trump becomes perfect and untouchable and righteous. That is a horrifying probability.

The renovation is far more extensive than President Trump first let on.

...

"I haven't been transparent? Really? I've shown -- I've shown this to everybody that would listen," he said.

I don't think the sub headline or his quote are wrong. In a general sense.

I think if he'd died while Biden was in office the sudden drop in momentum could have sunk the movement. Now that the election is past, I think that's much less likely simply because the system has been so thoroughly rotted from the inside. So many people have been fired or otherwise removed from the picture. There is hardly a corner of the government now that doesn't have an infestation in the walls. We learned in his first term how much was riding on norms and humans in various long term roles that simply kept this train moving. Now all that has been completely compromised, and there are many fewer people who even knew the norms, much less are willing to fight to bring them back.

Like, even if we have fair elections again, good luck removing guys like Stephen fucking Miller from Washington now. They're dug in like ticks.

(all that said, I'm still hoping to outlive that fucker)
Ticks are an appropriate analogy. The metaphorical house needs to be fumigated. Fortunately, Donald Trump is doing his damndest to make sure every American realizes that. He has a masked secret police force kidnapping immigrants and Americans alike. He's literally bulldozing the White House. This happened in 10 months.

If Democrats are able to come in and do what's necessary, I doubt there will be that much pushback (outside of MAGA Land, of course, but hopefully we've all tuned them out by January 2029).

"If" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. I simply don't believe they have the stomach, as a collective, to do the deep clean that's needed.
This is where I'm at, too. I think it's slightly more likely than not that they have majorities in 2029. Does the party have the intestinal fortitude to pack the court? To prosecute the crooks robbing us blind? I'd put that at 20 or 25%. Lower if Schumer and Jeffries are still in charge.
