U.S. Politics

Apparently most of the stuff on the shells is from video games?

For the most part, the engravings are just memes that have been in circulation between people in their 20s for a while now.

"hey fascist! CATCH! ⬆️➡️⬇️⬇️⬇️": In particular, this is a reference to Helldivers 2, but it's a play on a meme format that usually goes "I'm not gonna sugarcoat it" (top text) "[game attack input]" (bottom text). Sometimes, it's more "Nice argument," (top text) "Unfortunately, [game attack input, or average bait comment]." (bottom text)

"O Bella ciao, Bella ciao, Bella ciao Ciao ciao!": This showing up is likely a 4channer groyper thing, but I've seen it in a few memes and videos by people my age in general.

"If you read This, you are GAY Lmao.": Average bait stuff, usually snuck in semi-hidden spots on webpages or images. Sometimes snuck in website code. That kinda thing.

"Notices Bulge OwO what's this?": Reference to erotic roleplay, especially that of furries. Around 2016 or so its circulation went CRAZY, but it died down a bit in the past few years. I really do not know how to explain to people above the age of 30 the cultural stranglehold and impact this phrase had on a major subset of our generation, and I don't think anyone does. I've heard from a lot of people already about the most awkward dinner table conversations stemming from this one in particular. I'm really glad this guy didn't engrave cockwaffle or some shit into another casing, now that'd be a true nightmare to explain.

I feel insane seeing most of this stuff being introduced to people completely detached from not just our generation, but the most terminally online of our generation. It's like watching someone try to unravel a shit ton of cables by cutting all the cables in half, setting it on fire, then pissing on it.

I think this might be too naive. Mostly because it hasn't happened yet. There's a mass shooting every day in the US. 99% committed by white, Republican men. And the Right is still 100% on board with the idea that the Left is responsible for all the violence. They don't live in reality. No amount of reality in front of them is going to change anything.

If what you were saying was true, and I wish it was, then we would have already seen a mass exodus of conservative voters away from the 2A fundies apologizing for guns every time a group of fucking toddlers are mowed down in public. It literally NEVER happens. They don't actually care. And I include the voters in 'they.'
Well just look at all the Dem wins in recent special elections, especially in heavy red states/areas.

I'm not talking about people getting out and speaking out, or any sort of public reactions. I'm talking about how much suspension of disbelief the average person is willing to engage in for the sake of someone. This isn't some kind of tipping point, or that there will be some great wave of outcry against Trump and MAGA. I'm just saying that each time they try and spin against a mountain of evidence to the contrary a few people will be less and less likely to believe them going forward.

It is that little bit of chipping away each time that can build over time and make a small difference in the future. Which based on how razor thin the margins are in the US political climate right now that could make all the difference is just enough don't bother to turn out. Hell look how that worked out for Trump thanks to people not bothering to turn out for Kamala.

There's a lot of theories about that and one of the prevailing opinions I see is that Dems tend to win special elections and mid-terms right now because the Dem base is more galvanized to show up over and over again, because Dem-voters are the ones being targeted by the administration and are more aware that all their rights are being stripped away.
In short, Dem-voters tend to be more GENERALLY politically active.

Whereas conservative voters tend to only really show up for presidential elections because they are less educated, less aware, and less politically motivated in their day-to-day lives.

So Dems winning outside presidential elections isn't really evidence of a slow turn away from conservatives, but just more evidence that conservatives won't show up unless Donnie is on the ballot because they're in a cult and not actually politically motivated.

Case in point is that Dems did really well in the LAST mid-terms and specials, and Donald still, apparently if we assume no foul play, completely smoked Harris in the main election.

This flipped over the last decade. Live by the low-info voter, die by the low-info voter. We have to hope these people check out when Trump actively hurts them or isn't on the ticket.

Back in 2020, I was confident that any Democrat could've beaten Trump. (The ever-pragmatic Democratic Party went with the safest choice. In retrospect, the correct choice was "anyone who will prosecute Donald Trump as quickly and fiercely as possible.") I suspect we're reaching that political environment again, just eight months into his term.

My two fears are 1) How badly will they cheat this time? Will two wave elections be enough for majorities?

2) What will this country look like in six months?

(As an aside, during the Kirk fiasco, I learned to look in their eyes as they go on TV to shout. As with Miller here, it's almost all performative. He's screaming about shit he doesn't believe so he can take away our rights.)

My desire is to set this country straight. That's going to involve whooping their ass in 2026 and 2028 and installing politicians who will fight.

The variable is how bad things get before then. Do they ramp up the occupation of blue cities? Do they wield various law enforcement bodies as a cudgel, as Miller is threatening? How does the country react?

I have some hope that the Christmas supply chain issues will turn the country feral and that anger will be directed at the White House.

The term covered a diverse group of people, including those who struggled with addiction, poverty, or homelessness, as well as individuals who rejected or simply failed to fit into the regime’s vision of a disciplined, obedient society.
