U.S. Politics

Prove me wrong isn't moderation, it's a setup. It allows one to say whatever thet want and put the onus of disproving on the other party. Proving yourself right takes thought and time. Prove me wrong is an abdication of responsibility.
Kinda related, ADHD compelled to share.

There is a kid in my program that tries to flirt with a few of the girls by negging and mocking them incessantly for their appearance (You're a ginger), clothes or hobbies or thoughts. If any of them ever get annoyed and call him on it, it's usually in a "Why does it even matter that I'm a red head" manner, which sets him up perfectly for his creepy little human fly, hand rub and a trademark "You know. You know. Ha haa."

While having lunch with some of my cohort, this dude's behavior came up and one of the girls was like but he never does that to me.

To which this really quiet guy suddenly says, "It's because he doesn't want to sleep with you."

"What?"

And then he just broke down how this dude's approach is gaslighting, and really the reason I'm bringing it up is it was almost word for word what you just said here, but for that context. He's putting the onus on them to think "What do I know? Is he flirting with me?" and then it's them that created that idea, not him. Since he's usually rebuffed or rejected, he still has no accountability since he never actually said he was flirting with you.

Anyway, it was really funny seeing this kid break it down like that (like your post) and the eyes lighting up in every woman at that table.

There's a similar thing in the creative social media space where people will post their artwork or writing and immediately say it was just some quick. No nothing thing, no effort, it's whatever. I only had two pencils, it's just trash but I'm posting it anyway. Which we all know you're taking the time to post it and write about it. You're clearly trying to show it off. But you're getting ahead of any criticism by diminishing any perceived value, even thought most people are just gonna Like it.

I just really dislike that whole societal shift to this nonchalant "abdication of accountability".

Anyway, further on topic, I don't think any of it matters when it comes to the shooter. This administration, The Party, has already crafted a narrative of They and that's all that matters. If the the shooter fits with it, cool. If he doesn't, they will spin and misdirect and continue pushing ahead with the narrative they created the minute that trigger was pulled.

The majority of people have already made up their mind to buy into it in that minute, as we see on social.

Remember when it turned out both guys that wanted to kill Trump were life-long Republicans? It never mattered. It never will matter. Because the Right doesn't actually believe in or stand for anything at all and when facts and reason and truth have no value, then nothing matters except what they WANT. They will say or claim anything to get it. That's it. That's all it has been for my entire life and that's all it will ever be from them.

We need them all gone. All the politicians, and all the social media grifters that bolster them.

Comic artist Mark Brooks posted

"Man, a bunch of people really showed me who they are over the last couple of days. Surprising, bewildering and disappointing in so many ways."

And of course in the comments you have people from all sides thinking that he's talking smack about them and taking offense and getting accusatory and hostile.

It's just funny how minds can work.

"Sometimes, Winston. Sometimes they are five. Sometimes they are three. Sometimes they are all of them at once."

And 100% on Coward. I just am amused by reactions.

While I agree with you on the idea that it really doesn't matter to them in the end. It does blunt and weaken their arguments when each and every time it turns out to be someone from the MAGA/Republican side and not a clear cut Democrat/Socialist/Antifa culprit.

Yes they'll keep pushing ahead, but those on the fringes who aren't quite fully enveloped into the cult will have pause, even for a second. Plus I always think back to the Baroness in the GI Joe episode "The Gamesmaster." One scene has CC saying he will take the one man helicopter and send back help. The Baroness speaks up and says "Even I cannot swallow that one."

That is what happens each time it turns out to be one of their own doing the killing. Trump et al can say whatever they want, but there are some, who may not speak out, but will personally think to themselves that it doesn't fit with what they are seeing. That makes it harder the next time to keep up the charade.

and he totally leaves out the Minnesota killings 🙄

of course this was going to happen

who knows if he really was a criminal since we can't take ICE at their word
maybe he saw a bunch of masked men coming up on his car & gunned it to get away
I'm sure anyone would do that to avoid getting carjacked

I think this might be too naive. Mostly because it hasn't happened yet. There's a mass shooting every day in the US. 99% committed by white, Republican men. And the Right is still 100% on board with the idea that the Left is responsible for all the violence. They don't live in reality. No amount of reality in front of them is going to change anything.

If what you were saying was true, and I wish it was, then we would have already seen a mass exodus of conservative voters away from the 2A fundies apologizing for guns every time a group of fucking toddlers are mowed down in public. It literally NEVER happens. They don't actually care. And I include the voters in 'they.'

Amazing, I just said almost the exact same thing to my mom, probably around the same time you posted that. She doesn't follow the news super hard in order to maintain her own sanity, so she's still at the "well, they can't do that" stage, as well as "what about when they're confronted with the facts".

I've been talking about moving to Ireland for a while now, even before Trump won the second time, but it's sorta almost a half-bluff because I know my wife won't leave her brothers etc. I was SHOCKED during the discussion with my mom just now that my wife told her, "Oh, by the way, I hope you're okay with moving to Ireland." Then went on to say that yeah it's one thing deal with all the dipshits online who wanna lionize this undeserving person, but every day Trump and all the people he's installed in so many agencies are just making everything so much worse and moving to Ireland is something she's on the verge of researching/planning out. My mom said "What about Canada?" Since that's been on her mind since my dad was almost drafted in the 60s, heh. But my wife said nope, it's gonna be Ireland. She is soooooo getting laid tonight.*

*if she says yes.

I feel like there's a few pieces of living proof that she's famously bad at saying no.
