U.S. Politics

And this:

Although I will say I'm not sure that Hyundai needed hundreds of Korean workers for this project. One of the poison pills these deals require to get done. I'm sure South Korea and their mega corporations, are going to be so excited to honour any of their promised deals with Trump. I'm sure they'll slow walk them even further now.

I can only hope he has his own tweet read back to him at his International Criminal Court trial in four years.
Unfortunately that is never going to happen. Neither party in the US has ever been willing to put the US under the jurisdiction of a foreign court. Including the ICC. So if anything is going to happen it will all be done on US soil.

The Kia plant thing is crazy. Some Karen running for office reports them for not hiring Georgians YET (the tale here is that SK says these workers were brought in because the American workers aren't trained to do the work needed yet, so this crew was to handle the initial setup and train the new recruits) to win MAGA points and hundreds of lives and an international relationship are fucked.

We also had Hegseth fire a top Navy official on the recommendation of LIBS OF TIKTOK, for fuck's sake.

That's just an excuse. These deals almost always include dozens, if not hundreds, of foreign employees to sweeten the pot because it gives the foreign company/country more incentive to do the deal. There is no way they needed that many Korean workers for construction. Hell even the equipment training wouldn't take that many foreign workers.

I might have found a small way through on non-entrenched conservatives regarding Gaza. Had an 'interesting' conversation on Friday with a conservative up here. So... one of those Canadians that says things like 'I think Trump has the right idea' and 'we need someone like that to fix Canada.' One of them. BUT, friendly and talkative and was open to chatting rather than being hyper-aggressive.

We were specifically talking about what's going on in Gaza and I pointed out that both sides (in US politics) have a big problem right now with not calling it a genocide and we need to name it. He was kind of pushing the Trump 'law and order' thing before that, so I wound that in my argument, about how international law needs to matter, or any country can do whatever it wants and Canada's military isn't exactly big enough to withstand the US or China deciding they'd like to own us.
Anyway, he was defending Israel's actions using the typical media talking points, and he really hammered on it being the fault of Hamas for using civilians as shields and that's why Israel 'has no choice' but to bomb hospitals and schools (two of the examples I used of their war crimes).

I took a moment and said 'okay, but let me ask you something and I want you to just be real about it.' Again, he was open to talking so I had some room here. I said: "You know all those like '80s cop movies and shit? In a bunch of them some bad guy grabs a women off the street or a child or some shit and holds them as a human shield, and the hero cop has to do some amazing trick shot or be crafty or whatever to get the bad guy without hurting the bystander, right? How would you honestly react to the hero cop good guy just emptying an entire magazine into the innocent child and then say 'well, I killed the bad guy, didn't I?' "

Dude was absolutely silent. To his credit, his actual response after about 10 seconds or so was 'yeah, I never really thought about that.'

I'm not saying I changed his mind. But .. hey.. maybe.

I always hate it when someone plays that “They have no choice,” card about the situation in Gaza. The one with their finger on the trigger always has a choice. War would be so simple if that was the excuse because the countries with most bombs would just rain death indiscriminately on any nation they were in conflict with. The real good guys don’t murder civilians.

There was a time when American citizens spit on their own soldiers and held up signs calling them baby killers at the mere SUGGESTION that American troops had killed civilians in another country. Now, Americans are actively rooting for a well-armed military to execute an entire population of women and children to protect..... ~checks notes~ a Zionist vision for a Jewish ethno-state fully funded by American taxpayers. That checks out.
