U.S. Politics

I voted in my first Presidential election in 1980. I was in Antarctica. If we didn't have mail in voting, the U.S. Navy would have had to fly me all the way back to my home state of Indiana so I could vote and then fly me back to Antarctica.

The U.S. Navy's not going to do that.

Mail in voting started during the Civil War. Too many men were far away from home and the government felt soldiers had a right to vote for whoever it was that was going to send them into battle. Which, you know, is a fair point.

You can read more about the history of mail in voting here, but suffice it to say that Orange TACO isn't going to have an easy time trying to eliminate it.

I still think a lot of his bullshit these days is just trying to distract us from the Epstein files. It's not working. I wanna see what's in those files.

That's how press conferences need to be.
"I'm gonna do away with mail-in voting entirely."
"Cool. What's up with them Epstein files?"
if nothing else, it'll piss him off and that's about the best you can hope for at the WH press room.

Could almost say it's just more proof he doesn't care about American citizens and their rights and privileges.

Certainly not those of us living abroad or serving.

Precisely.
Like so on every article.

Whoa, whoa- easy, now. Let's leave our beloved tacos out of this. Tacos are things of beauty. They nourish and sustain and bring joy and pleasure to countless folks. They're infinitely adaptable and just downright delicious. They're everything Trump isn't. Not to mention they're Mexican, so he'd want nothing to do with them.

If anything, he's a Doritos Locos Taco. Is it delicious? Yes. But it's also a gross Americanized bastardization of the real thing.

How satisfying it would be to see him implement this plan expecting it to make it harder for people, only for them to double down on their attempts to vote him out. He'd undoubtedly come up with some new excuse as to why he was wronged, but still.
Absolutely. If he tries to run again—which I suspect he will—and if the Supreme Court allows it—which I suspect they might—we'll get a January 6 2.0. He doesn't have a prayer of winning another election that isn't completely rigged, and he isn't leaving office without a fight.

He's gotta be in it for life now. Otherwise his convictions/jail time will finally catch up with him.

Just saw a bit on the news that he says you can't have elections during wartime and there might be a war in 3 years I don't think that's exact but he was definitely implying.

All part of his LONG history of just.. saying things... and seeing which things his media mouthpieces will pick up on and run with and make a whole thing. Like the "some people want me to run for a third term' thing. No way he wasn't intentionally floating that for -other- people to crusade on on his behalf.

I should add, to be fair, it was actually Zelenski that said, when asked about holding elections in the Ukraine, that the process they use doesn't allow for them to have safe elections during a war, so they'd need safety to hold new elections. Trump then chimed in to say something like 'if we're in a war in 3.5 years, then we don't have to have elections - good.'

Interesting. If that's true that's news to me. As far as I know, no mid-term or Presidential election has ever been canceled or delayed in the US, for war or any other reason.

Congress has the authority to delay an election but they can't cancel it.

But I'm no Constitutional Scholar so I defer to anyone else who may be able to definitively answer that.

That man really is a goddamned idiot.

This is why his cult scares the fck out of me. We were quite capable of holding an election during WWII, we could have one now, we've had a ton of elections while we were at war in the desert for 20 years, but his combination of mouth breathing sycophants and scheming scumbags would happily fuck the country over to try to cancel an election and keep him there. In a logical world we wouldn't have to worry about this but the worst goddamned people are in charge of everything.
