The sad thing is, they aren't out of touch. I understand exactly who it's for and why they think it's funny. It's for my dad, where MySpace is just a buzzword and still exists even though he never used it. It's a cultural touchstone for people to reach me, who very much did custom my page and have to manage my Top 8 so my girlfriend wasn't upset.

It's the exact bit of "terminally online" that gives them AI, Pepe, and memes (see the Shire post above) that shows they have someone, somewhere who deep fries memes on Reddit and 4Chan, and it's enough to amuse people the same way Babylon Bee is also stupid, in a cruel, not funny way, but they think it's funny. That it even makes you WTF, possibly with offense, is part of the "funny".

I really hate that I was terminally online enough for years to "get" their rationale, because it's from the sopping mildew corners of the net that I always turned back on.

I bet at some point Trump will post a Two Girls One Cup or Goatse picture with no irony or cultural understanding, and casuals will laud it and act like they were also in on it.

Goddammit. They're gonna post something to TV on the Radio's Wolf Like Me or Yeah Yeah Yeah's Off With Their Heads and use an All Your Base or You're the Man Now, Dog meme and then I'll have lost everything. And then I will become John Rambo. Second movie.
