Tracking toy tariffs

Trump himself has now asked Congress to exclude the highest earners from the renewal of the 2017 tax break bill. About a month ago Steve Bannon was on Bill Maher's show and said he was going to do this, and now it looks like he has. We'll see if Congress plays along or if this is all just a show for the cameras.

A month ago I agreed with you wholeheartedly, but now I'm not at all sure.
Let's keep in mind it's -all- performative until the loopholes that allow billionaires to hide all of their money are ALL closed and the IRS has the proper funding it needs to audit the billionaires to ensure compliance with tax laws. Until that happens (and it won't under a Republican - or most Democrats) then they could go ahead and pantomime whatever 'no tax breaks for you' that they want and it will be meaningless theatre.

Mondo just listed Nightcrawler. The total it was showing me was $53 USD more than it costs for the Wolverine figure that went up for sale a few months ago.

And Nightcrawler is on the smaller side. I imagine any over-sized figure like Sinister would be $350.

Hoping they refund customers the extra charges if the tariffs permanently go away.

Didn't order it, but was just curious to see- said it would be $20 in tariff surcharges to ship to me. Not terrrible; I think 20/25 is about the threshold for me on when I'd reconsider getting something. Still tempted by Nightcrawler, to be honest, but I just can't open that Pandora's Box. The BTAS line is tempting enough.

I'm not defending it at all because it fucks with my hobby, but wasn't the de minimis thing supposedly about the fentanyl precursors that were being shipped from China? One of the geopolitical guys I listen to on occasion was actually admitting he thought it was a good idea for that reason. And part of the remaining 30% tariffs includes the original 20% he slapped on ostensibly for those same reasons.
There's no way any of this is actually about fentanyl. This administration has made so many moves against helping people with addiction issues it's easy to see they really don't care about it as an issue. Also, there's more fentanyl heading into Canada from the US than the other way around, so blaming Canada for fentanyl traffic is nonsensical. Everyone is against drug smuggling, so it's an easy moral "win" to decry it. And fentanyl is the drug of the moment in media. So they're just waving that around as some kind of moral justification for their international trade taxes.

I was only talking about China and de minimus. I agree about Canada.

I checked it out too and it's $245 for the figure, plus a $20 tariff charge, plus $32 for shipping. Mind you, shipping was free before, but now I'm guessing it's costing them more money to bring product into the US first and then ship it as opposed to having product ship from the factory to the consumer via DHL. Tariffs essentially tacked on 50 bucks to the price, and had this been released just six months ago, I'm guessing the base price would have come in at $220-$230, but I don't know that for sure. Even if I bypass sales tax by shipping the item to NH, that's still about $300 for a Nightcrawler figure and that's just too much, as much as I like it.

I feel like this is going to kill mondo tbh. Their prices are already kind of high, dumping tariffs on top will be a bridge too far for a lot of fans imo

I agree that Mondo is going to be disproportionately impacted by these increases. If they can, they would be wise to sit on as much product as they can in an attempt to see if conditions improve, but that also costs money too. They had a lot planned for this year too so this has got to be causing a lot of stress for that company and the people that work there.

Percentages no longer matter, the damage has been done. He did this his last term too! Other countries no longer trust the U.S. to keep their word.
Until he is gone there will be no stability.
Other than the authoritarian lurch, this is probably the biggest long-term issue stemming from MAGA. How will we get other countries to trust us again? The point of treaties is that they're agreements between countries; they aren't dependent on who's in office.

How will our own citizens trust the federal government again? The White House is illegally cutting off grant money, firing federal employees, and reversing federal spending. The President doesn't have the power to do any of that. We can't run a country where scientific funding is at risk every four years because the American people elected another wacko. If we're serious about curing cancer or making scientific advancements, we can't live in a world like that.

I have a shocker for you:

It was bullshit.

Now, why would the news media credulously report this? Donald Trump is the biggest liar in politics. As far as I can tell, there are only two options:

1) They're the biggest dupes alive
2) They're in the tank for Trump

Don't give this administration the benefit of the doubt.

Trump/DOGE/Elon gutted the IRS for this exact reason. Under Biden's Inflation Reduction Act, the IRS got a big funding increase. They paid us back for that and then some.

The Republican Party's driving ideology, so much as they have one, is to help rich tax cheats.

Republican policy can't withstand a single follow-up question. This is another instance. If de minimis is about fentanyl, why did they again lower the de minimis tariff? It's nonsense.

It's also not like a $100 flat fee would impact drug dealers.

My biggest hit off the copium pipe as far as Mondo is concerned with these tariffs is that their required price-point for the Real Ghostbusters figures actually gives them more wiggle room with pricing than some of their other offerings, and that the surcharge will be a bit less for them. But I'll probably pass out from trying to inhale too much when the time comes.

How does preventing us from buying from Temu and Aliexpress bring manufacturing back to the US?

That still means our ability to get that InArt Dark Knight figure is either narrow or non-existent.

Kit at OneSixthKit just reopened shipping to the US, and he still have both the regular and deluxe available for preorder (you have to be signed in to see this stuff, usually) :

Who knows if he will have to suspend shipping again, but at least it's an option.

It's an emotional roller coaster, I tell ya.

My hope is that :
People keep their jobs and business stay open (although I know it's too late for some).

The hobby can continue without crippling price hikes.

I can enjoy the hobby without politics.

In that order.
