Tracking toy tariffs

I read something about it not shipping before tariffs so they cancelled it but I dont remember if that was speculating

From what I've seen looking at the AP and Reuters, apparently the meeting lasted 10 hours, but they DID exit for a prearranged upon lunch break. I think this bit about them leaving was just speculation by some people online.

China is insisting they haven't nor will they make a single concession. I take Trump's "GREAT PROGRESS MADE!!!" to be confirmation of China's public stance.

I don't have a ton of opinion on who's getting the shorter end of the stick on trade with China; too many variables and media articles cover almost none of those variables. All I know is that the US trade negotiators claiming that China floods the market with "cheap products" is more of a compliment than a critique. It's like calling your spouse a slut for giving you sex for free...um, isn't that the entire point of a marriage (trade deal)? Of course it is, so using that to turn the tables on China is just an attempt to conflate Chinese brands of questionable quality with American brands that outsource their manufacturing to China. Those things aren't at all equivalent, but Trump's goons want people to think they are.

Those "cheap products" are the bread and butter for like 95% of the country. Who among us hasn't gotten little cheapy toys to play with or a cheapy pair of headphones or something to take on a trip? Hell, for poor folks like me growing up, we wouldn't have had birthdays or Christmas without those cheapy dollar store products (also ironic because I can still walk into any dollar store, chain or independently owned, and a large swath of the cheapest toys all say "Made in the USA" on bottom). I don't know if a lot of people realize what a blessing those little things are, and how often they come through for us when we need a quick replacement or gift for a crying child or something, regardless of how cheaply they're made; when they're not available, and everything (including the cheaply made stuff) skyrocket in price, people will be clamoring for those things. But I wouldn't expect an out of touch, self-centered man who's always lived a life of luxury and never had to go without to know anything about what's "cheap". To him, a million dollars is "cheap". He's speaking on behalf of the Everyman, of which he's never been one. Infuriating.

That's the thing, though; Trump doesn't even have to do anything here to still win, as far as his base is concerned. Because they're so brainwashed into just believing everything he says. If Trump really wants to, he can set up the same trade agreement we already had, or WORSE, and then just publicly be like 'I did it, we made China agree to our terms.' And 30% of the country will buy it, because they're fucking idiots.

He's done that (saying something is bad then getting essentially the same deal set up with a new name) before. It's like Gulf of America, but with far more pain, anxiety, and suffering.

He actually did it with Canada. When he announced how Canada had come to the table and made all these concessions. The deal that Trump got with Canada was literally the deal that Biden had put in place back in like November. And Trump's ghoulish base just ate it up and chattered on about how fucking amazing he is.
They are wilful in their complicity with his lies and his evil. Period.

It’ll also still have the effect of other countries not trusting the US, so partnering more closely with China and other countries for trade and with other areas.

Also, US companies will likely be still conservative with investments in terms of hiring and expansion because they don’t know what Trump is going to do.

And, of course, even if the tariffs are basically lifted tomorrow or whatever, there will likely be some shortages and price increases in the summer regardless.

If the announcement really is a meaningful change or reduction in tariffs, it’ll be interesting to see how quickly toy companies and retailers remove tariff surcharges and price increases. Like, the Mondo Nightcrawler is going up for sale this week — does this mean Mondo removes the 20% tariff surcharge and offers free shipping again?

Probably a sign for deals to come. They couldn't even negotiate with the fucking UK.

I think this is hopium, but I think there's a small chance this comes to fruition:
