Tracking toy tariffs

Welp. Trump reached a deal with the UK. Only 10% tariffs.

Hopefully something can be reached with China soon. 10% is a hell of a lot better than 145%.

The first Mondo item post-tariffs went up for sale, one of the Godzilla soft vinyls. Looks like they're applying a 20%ish Trump tariff tax on their items.

This item also didn't have free shipping, which they typically have been doing with their 1/6 lines. Not sure if that's going away as well. Both together could have a big impact.

I did the math for me on Nightcrawler assuming his sticker price stays the same as the other X-Men figures at $240. With the tariff surcharge and with free shipping, he'd be about $300 for me with state sales tax. With the tariff surcharge, state taxes, and shipping, I'd be looking at probably about $330 total. This is as compared to $259, which was the total cost for me for the last few X-Men figures I bought from Mondo in the last six months.

The B:TAS figures actually have been a little cheaper (besides Clayface). Hadn't realized that before.

China will not yield, and they will match any tariff Trump imposes. They're not going to negotiate because they have no reason to do so.

I know a lot of people like to think Trump is dumb--and he's definitely not playing 4D chess, but he's not as dumb as he sounds since most of that is him spouting lies he knows his barely-paying-attention base will swallow whole--but this is the first truly dumb thing I can remember seeing him do in EITHER presidency. It's like playing a game of chicken with someone who's suicidal--you can't win, so the only way to win is never play to begin with. I can only guess he was half-paying attention to Peter Navarro, and he skipped the part where Navarro's end game is to return manufacturing back to America over a longer time frame than Trump even has in office.

Now we're in a trade war, and it will continue until we all feel so much pain that Trump has no choice but to swallow his pride. Or Congress mans up and overrides his executive actions since they ultimately have the power of the purse, but of course they won't do that because Trump and his cronies will primary them out of office if they do.

Trump's been showing signs of senility for a year or two now. When he was campaigning last year and travelling around the country it was REALLY getting to him, and there are a bunch of video examples of him ranting and raving about absolute nonsensical gibberish that made me wonder at the time if he was close to having a stroke. Keeping his schedule at his age is rough, and I'm sure lack of sleep was the cause.

I've never seen him quite as diminished as Biden showed us he was last year though. And neither of them are as bad as Reagan was his last year or two in office.

So are you guys all going to get pre-orders in relatively soon? The retailers are claiming Hasbro will raise prices on all unreleased figures after tomorrow, and it's inevitable that other retailers will soon as well.

I just put pre-orders in on all of the figures I know I'm going to want. Usually I don't pre-order anything except items I think will sell out at or shortly after release, but the threat of prices going up 50% to 100% is far more than enough for me to put pre-orders in now.

Anyone got a guess as to the new price of Legends? I'm guessing it will jump from $24.99 to $39.99 unless Hasbro figured out a way to pull off a Tijuana two-step, and if they did then the new price may be more like $29.99 or $34.99. The dumb part of this planning is companies have to also plan for Trump to pull the plug on tariffs which is more likely than them lasting another 6 to 12 months.

I've put in POs for almost everything I really want and I HATE pre-ordering. Did a lot at DD if they were below retail - but not sure that company will honor the lower price. Have some backups at Amazon, and I pre-ordered any Target exclusives that are actually available - can always return if I end up not wanting them (like Krennic - hate that stupid character and I haven't even seen this week's batch of Andor yet). When I buy online I normally order two in case the paint is bad, and I'm still doing that in most cases. I grabbed the Tbolts sets and Masque just in case I do end up wanting that set and if not, all of these are returnable, except for DD. Speaking of DD, he's one I have not pre-ordered yet - and he and Frank are the furthest out announced Marvel Legends figures.

I've locked in pre-orders on anything I'm even vaguely interested in at BBTS. I figure I'll get Dash Rendar and the few other Hasbro things I pre-ordered. Pretty worried about my Hiya pre-orders, though.

Trying to catch up on NECA stuff too, and just about there. Pamela Voorhees just dropped in my pile-of-loot. Placed a huge Best Buy order, and that stuff is all trickling in.

Sad the Haulathon Halloween 6 Michael Myers hasn't made it to any other retailers yet. Huge Halloween franchise nut; probably the movie franchise I am legitimately most passionate about, but I am boycotting Target so haven't had a chance to grab him yet.

I found that Frank and the Fantastic Four She-Hulk were sold out almost everywhere, as was Felicia Hardy. The only place I found where nothing was pre-sold out was Nerdzoic, so I went with them.

It is hard to imagine Hasbro relisting standard figures at $39.99 - people would lose their freaking minds. You already see tons of people pretending like Hasbro can just eat the tariffs without difficulty. Personally, I hope they take the BBTS approach and announce that new preorders will have a tariff surcharge applied. I really want more companies to be highlighting exactly how this bullshit is inflating prices.

FYI, Felicia is still available at Deep Discount - and for less than retail: https://www.deepdiscount.com/hasbro...cat-felicia-hardy-action-figure/5010996300539

I'm guessing Legends go up to 30 bucks. There's no science behind my guess other than I think that's what Hasbro feels like it can get away with without losing a significant amount of sales.

I received notification yesterday that some stuff is expected to hit my PoL soon. Curious if there will be a tariff surcharge or not. The items (Super7 Misfits) are tagged with them, but maybe they snuck in before they went into effect?

Yeah, I try to get my preorders in on day one if I gonna pre-order at all, otherwise I'm waiting to take my chances in November.

If Hasbro does nothing different except pay the new tariffs then that's the best guess I've seen for what the new price would be. If they declare a Legends to be worth $10, then 145% * $10 is about $15, so prices would raise by $15.

But they've probably waited this long to come up with a way of avoiding the tariffs. And since Mattel hasn't raised prices yet then they've probably found a way since they don't want to announce new price points significantly higher than their competitors' prices are. I bet they moved packaging to somewhere else--maybe Mexico, maybe someplace closer to China like India or Vietnam--and Legends will import from that new country now, yet still be mostly manufactured in China.
