Tracking toy tariffs

Per the question regarding de minimus for Chinese shipments. Basically any of us collecting import toys from China is screwed.

I used to buy stuff from Aliexpress. Joytoy Warhammer as an example. Now, I'd be getting paying a 120% levy (or $100 flat fee) and 145% tariff (or whatever the tariff is currently set at) to import my small shipment. Used to be able to get a $30 figure shipped to the US and still be cheaper than going through US sellers. No longer. So yeah, even if China was still shipping to the US, collecting Chinese figures is no longer an option.

I did see a Japanese store comment that they can't lie about the value of shipments. As their system is all digital and linked to the government, so they can't modify values of shipments to help the buyer. I'm sure smaller sellers will work with you to reduce the declared value of your shipment. But importing toys is now a pain if not impossible. Looking forward to people having to smuggle toys into the US.
And it is such a petty move.

As I said before, Canada has a much lower threshold for items coming into the country for a person (through mail/shipping). Most countries also have a very low threshold because of protectionism. Hell the US had a much more reasonable amount until 2015. They could have easily dropped the threshold to near zero, but of course that wouldn't have stopped the shipments. It would have slowed them down considerably because then everyone would have to decide if they wanted to pay customs/duties/taxes on items at a rate that would have made most items no cheaper than buying in the US.

Instead it was, as usual, using a machine gun to try and kill a fly. "Let's make it so ridiculously expensive that it all shuts down instead of trying to pass legislation that would reduce the industry while still getting taxes out of it." Nope let's just burn it down and practically eliminate any possible new revenue from this source just by lowering the threshold.

I'm mad. Ad homs are what I've got. If you have issue with that, I'm positive there's a block button. Utilize it or shut the fuck up. Or here's a thought: sack up and deal with it.
Well now you're in a pickle because I have an issue with it. Attack points. Attack veracity of claims. Vigorously defend your opinions and bring receipts as to why people are wrong. But we're not going to resort to base name-calling and any version of how that post started. Whether or not you think it's warranted is immaterial. I'm not going to allow it.

There's lots of latitude here in how we interact. Some of it may even be bordering on disrespectful, but we do have to draw a line somewhere and at direct personal attacks of that nature seems as good a place as any.

Regarding the protest votes -- I don't know. I file that under 'credulous, easy-to-influence' types that could have been convinced to vote a particular way by basically anything. I haven't seen much evidence to support any assertion (if one is being made at all) that a significant (i.e. election-changing) amount of voters literally switched sides, or voted Republican for the first time ever, due to the Israeli genocide of Palestinians.
Frankly, the messaging regarding this conflict, from both political sides, was pretty much exactly the same. If someone was dumb enough to vote for Trump because 'Biden sells bombs to Israel' - when Republicans have been VERY clear in their support of Israel, then that person was already itching for a reason to vote Trump. I don't believe (meaning, again, have seen no convincing evidence) that this was a swing issue.

Granted, there were a lot of influencers talking about it. But I can't find any concrete data that it meant anything to anyone beyond a few fringe people that probably didn't fucking vote anyway and were just shit-stirring. Or rightfully angry. I mean, we do have the right to be angry about Biden continuing to give Israel financial and military support. 'So did every other president' is a piss-poor excuse to not be mad about it.

I wanted to get those bare arms for the ML Jackman Wolverine. Did I miss that boat?
I know this is a couple pages back, but Robo did a "play day" video where he took a pair of bare arms from one of the movie Logans and swapped them onto the DP v W Wolverine body. It meant he had to remove the glove sleeves from the Wolverine figure, but it looked good, and was easier (especially now, anyway) than trying to get those arms from overseas.

I mean, realistically, is there any chance at all that we don't get a bare-armed Wolverine figure? Granted, it'll probably cost a good 67 USD, but still!

Oh, God, and as if on cue, one outs themselves.

Should the killings have taken place? Of fucking course not. *BUT* it is a decades long war that has been going on long before the Biden administration, and for the burden of responsibility to lie on him was and continues to be horseshit. We supplied weapons to an ally. And people were acting as if Biden was the one pulling the trigger.

The point being, stupid, is influencers using said influence, while using this war as their excuse, to sway an election among a certain segment of people who were unable to think for themselves. The same generation who voted for Trump because Joe Rogan told them to. And this, the same election with more at stake than a decades long war thousands of miles away. An election in which the alternative was going to be and IS going to be infinitely worse for the Gazan people than what was transpiring. It was moral grandstanding and virtue signaling one issue voting. It was the flavor of the week.

And now look at where WE are. And AGAIN, let me reiterate that now thet the damage is done, those same people are nowhere to be seen. Gaza is an afterthought and they've moved on to the newest grift.

So kindly--fuck all the way off with that noise.
I'm assuming you don't think Palestine and the US's complicity in the actions of the Israeli government are an issue of real legitimacy. or at least that it is not an issue serious enough to affect voting behavior (in a scenario involving politicians unwilling to change their policy in the wake of public outcry).
If you want to discuss Israel/Palestine, feel free to do so in the Politics thread. Hell, create a separate thread on Israel/Palestine. Do not do it here.

Same for Uncommitted. Seeing as all seven swing states went for Donald Trump in 2024, we can safely say they didn't swing the election. If you want to discuss Uncommitted further, head to the Politics thread.
We are in a bad spot, and frankly, I'm past niceties and civil discourse
We are in a bad spot, but we, on this forum, are not past niceties and civil discourse.

This place is what we make it, and we are not making it that.
Ad homs are what I've got.
I'm going to point you to the forum rules. Passionate discussion is cool. Politics are on the table. Name-calling is not.

I tried to change the convo yesterday with my crying over a Chun Li preorder post 😁
I have her and another preorder at Gundammit. They posted the message below to their FB back on 4/26. I hadn't seen it until this morning.

I read yesterday how there isn't really enough personnel to process all these packages to the point where warehouse space may need to be purchased due to delays. Tsk tsk Republicans adding to the size of the federal government. Purchasing property to store packages at a time when Elon's crew put my city's Social Security Administrations office on the close and sell list.

I did see on Gundamit (and show.z) that they had added shipping charges to things, where shipping was once free. I don't know if individual prices have been bumped, but I didn't notice any on the things I was looking at compared to a few weeks ago. Knowing my preorders won't be affected is pretty incredible, I don't have a ton but I do have enough that it would be very expensive if all of the costs were sent on to me. If the worst that comes out of it on GD's end is I have to pay a shipping fee, that's pretty incredible.

Not my place to speak, but reprimandations will happen when rules are broken. Disrespecting others is singling yourself out.
We have some culpability in this as we can be a little loosy-goosy with the rules in an effort to facilitate better, more open dialogue and let people express themselves. But when we step in, that's it. We expect people to respond accordingly, and once we've stepped in I don't think there needs to be continued discussion about who was or wasn't wrong or anything like that. We move forward.

All good, I just wasn't keen on the (now deleted) response to the moderation, but I'll keep this in mind going forward.

Does anyone know what type of Trump tariff tax fee we should expect from Mondo? Is it literally go to be 145% of the retail price of a figure? Or some other cost, like what it actually cost to manufacture the figure (which I assume is way less than the $200 or so they charge).
