Tracking toy tariffs

I went to Sunset Grill yesterday, which used to be a cheap breakfast place.

They wanted $4 to add blueberries to pancakes. Maybe that's just basic economy, not tariffs, but unless you're gonna roll the blueberries down Ana De Armas's lower back and perspiration into the batter, I ain't paying $4 on a three stack.

Ana De Armas will only manage to cause revulsion in me nowadays. Anyone that, in the year of our fluffy lord 2025, CHOOSES to date Tom fucking Cruise, outs themselves as a complete piece of shit. "Oh yeah, just thought I'd date the 95-year-old sex-pest cult member that says horrible things about people with mental and emotional disregulation and willingly disowns family for not believing he's actually a superpowered alien spirit warrior."

She's either a vile person herself, or so incredibly goddamn stupid that all I can hear when she speaks in a movie is an echo.

4 bucks for some blueberries? They better be the best damn blueberries I've ever had for that price.

Oof, $4 for some blueberries is steep. I remember when I used to work at IHOP (a thankless job if ever there was one), it used to be $2 to add some blueberry compote to a short stack, and despite getting a decent amount, even that would send folks into a tizzy. You just know that, had you ordered them, it would've come out with like 4 blueberries on top. A buck a berry seems pretty right in this economy.

Let me tell you, I left my job working for our city in August with not much of a plan in place, other than "Eh, hate working with these assholes, I'll find something else".

When I tell you that I am having the worst time trying to find something, I mean I am having a *hell* of a time trying to find anything.

Either places are being incredibly picky, or they are scam job listings, or they aren't actually hiring...I've seen it all. Even for shitty entry level positions, virtually nothing.

Thank the Gods that my wife works at a major hospital and makes six figures. Because if we were relying on just me, we'd be in some serious destitute trouble. And even now, I wouldn't say we are living paycheck to paycheck, but it's getting difficult with everything going up just on a sole income. Again, and in any other time, under any other President, under any other economic charge, we'd be well off on just her salary alone. This is us being fortunate.

My collecting is definitely getting a little more discriminate, fortunately or unfortunately, however.

All this to say--stay at your place of employ right now. No matter how much you might hate it, ride it out as long as you can. Keep the stable thing you've got. Because being on the job hunt right now is awful and borderline impossible.

Good Luck man.

Back in 2005 I did something similar. Left a job as a Senior Manager at AMC Theatres (when they were still operating in Canada). Was making close to six figures with bonuses. Didn't have anything lined up outside of helping my parents with the family business. Went from that salary to about $1000 a month working 6-7 days a week at the business. It was a tough first year having to adjust almost everything in my life to accommodate my new situation. Lost my girlfriend at the time as well because it was not a situation she wanted to be in (fair for her).

Anyway I had my doubts for most of that year, and butted heads with my parents often . However I toughed it out and slowly it turned the corner and I spent the next 15 years building up the business and taking it over from my parents (and finally making more than I made at the theatre). So it can work out, but don't be too hard on yourself if you have doubts or fears because it is natural.

Of course the less said about Covid the better...........That killed the business. However thankfully I was married and had the house paid off (plus like you my wife makes six figures). So I was well established and "safe" after shutting down the business.

I'm now in the same boat. My wife's job pays well, but we were in the early stages of house hunting to get out of this rundown apartment we're in.
It will give me time to go through our storage units to figure out what I can sell, and then figure out WHERE to unload it.

The show "Chad Powers" has been a fun watch on Hulu and one ep had the head of the Boosters running after a character onto the field during a game. The character was surprised at how fast the Booster was running in heels and she said "I train to one day run from the poor."

I laughed out loud at the gym. But also...
