I believe that the tariffs are what led to the layoffs at S7. Aside from having to foot the bill on the 2003 TMNT wave, which might have erased all profits from what may have been a major seller for them, they also face complete uncertainty for the future. This isn't unique for them, but how do you move forward to price out future orders when theres absolutely no stable prediction on what tariffs will be like when product hits US shores? They could be 30%, they could be 200%. You can't in good faith move forward and make something according to their model with that kind of bizarre uncertainty.
From Brian's talks with Veebs, it sounds like S7 plans out waves pretty far in advance, so I imagine Kyle & Co have already designed a lot of unseen product. But I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped out of the game for a while. Their Deluxe waves have apparently sold well, and they could get a lot of milage releasing figs they've already developed and selling them to new consumers at Target and other retailers.
As for them having a good or bad year, who knows, it could be spin. But they've also gotten a lot more prudent. It could be a good year because they've culled a lot of stuff that hasn't done the numbers they want. Essentially, there are less holes in the ship, even if the winds are the same.
