The Countdown to SDCC 2025!

My plan, such as it is, is to stay alive long enough to see that. In 2035 I'll be 76 and there's a better than even chance I'll still be here. I was at SDCC in 1985 when DC celebrated their 50th anniversary. I want to be there for their 100th.

My bet's on me.

Any takers?

Good interview, unless you're a Jack of Hearts fan...
I like this interviewers style. Very peppy and positive.

Also Gorgon, if Dwight really didn't know who he was talking about. Also, bad news for that Rocket Racer rumor. Unless Dwight is a really good actor.

I have such a bad poker face that these kinds of interviews would get me in trouble.

YouTube keeps prompting me to watch Shartimus Prime's interview.
I just can't. He drives me crazy.
In fact, him and his spiky mohawk seemed to be blocking anybody getting close to Dwight and Dan at times in the booth.

Feel free to watch:

He listed some grievances - lack of shin cuts, especially when the sculpt makes it easy and Dwight says sometimes those are the factory changing the design and the team doesn't catch it, sometimes it's aesthetic. He mentioned the lack of paint on the back of the figures. They said he's looking at one figure at a time, but they have to look at the whole line and cost things out. Which - duh.

I forget the other. Dan tried turning all his questions back on him.

They will let anyone with a Youtube account have a press badge and ask questions these days.

And they really... really shouldn't.

Dwight mentioned Mantis as being a lot of new tooling and I just have to ask - is she?

She needs a skirt and an upper torso sculpted to include her giant shoulders - like Nightcrawler, like tons of other characters. She needs a new head.

She's not a blank buck, for sure, but is she really more tooling than any other figure? I don't buy it. And all her other details will just be painted on anyway.

I'm all for getting characters done right, even if it costs a little more, which seems to be the balance they're always struggling to find. Mantis costs a bit more to do right, but they don't expect she will sell at a higher price or move enough units at a lower price for it to make sense.

I'd be into them trying out a modified version of the MTO model - almost like a mini-Haslab. Put up a MTO figure with a minimum order requirement to get made, and see how many people bite. Classic Mantis done right, $40, 6,000 order minimum to get made. If they're really that nervous about some of these characters costing out it would be cool to see them try some other ways of bringing them to market.

They can cry "too expensive" all they want, but eventually they can't keep ignoring characters like Mantis who have a fan base. I'm certainly not the only one asking for Mantis on various boards. She pops up a lot. They just need to do it.
Similar to Jack of Hearts. Last year Dwight and I chatted at length about Jack, and Dwight certainly didn't indicate he wasn't doable. This year he mentioned the cost of the paint aps, as he did in that video I posted where he gave Jack a 2 on a scale of 10 as to his likelihood of being made.
Guess what Hasbro. We don't go away. When you put up barriers it just makes our resolve stronger. Mantis and Jack will probably keep popping up in various Top 10 lists from various social media outlets. Why? Because people want to add them to their collections. Mantis has the added bonus that people have the MCU version, now we want the comic version. If they make Swordsman before Mantis, that'll make us want her even more. They are a pair. Similar to how we have 2 versions of Enchantress, rumored to get #3, but no Skurge. There's a reason he's the top of our Top 10 list. People want him. Just do it Hasbro.

For me... even if Mantis is a bit costlier to do because of the skirt design and flared shoulders.. off-set that by putting her in a 2-pack with Swordsman. He could be done with very little new tooling. They both have MCU appearances to bolster their cred and we get two needed Avengers in one fell swoop.

It's like the low tool options they have for Spider-Man waves. If something in the wave gets expensive toss in the Spot as a no-tool wave filler to help. Will-o-the-Wisp is another near zero tool option.

And since I got the dramatic NEVER for my M'baku wish... maybe I'll become the Attuma guy. Can't be any moral objections there. Give me my Artuma!
