Super 7 Ultimates Thread

The problem isn't necessarily that I think Super7 did a bad job (although the fact that they can't figure out wrist articulation is pretty goddamn ridiculous). It's more that in-hand images remind me that I'm just over the MOTUC aesthetic. I don't think it actually fits the characters or the source. No shade on people that like it. But seeing real life pictures instead of renders really made me go 'oh, yeah, I'll just be disappointed if I buy that.' Especially at over 100 dollars Canadian before shipping.

This is how I feel. I really dug the MOTUC style when those figures first hit, but at this point action figures have much better engineering, and we've gotten a whole lot of really great barbarian style toys that leave them in the dust. If Super7 had put the Conan & Kull figures out back when MOTUC was in its heyday, I'd have jumped all over them. Seeing them now compared to stuff like Frazetta Girls, Heroic Signatures, and even "not Conan" entries from Savage Crucible makes these look so bad.

I only have two MOTUC figures left in my collection; the re-issue of regular He-Man (i.e. corrected shoulders) and Battle Armor He-Man. And neither use the original shitty MOTUC head (vintage-style and mini-comic). I have a TON of affection for seeing a He-Man figure that looks like this. I still think it's the best 'modern-style' interpretation of the vintage toys that we have gotten, or perhaps ever COULD get. It's nearly perfect for what it was originally trying to do; grownupify the vintage toy. I love it.

But I realized over time I just didn't need anyone BUT He-Man because the figures aren't particularly -good-. I said, way back in 2009, that these figures were dated, but I liked them anyway. That was in one of my first 'reviews' of a MOTUC figure (King Grayskull exclusive, before the main line actually dropped). So again, these were dated in 2009. It's 2025.
While I used to put them on the same level as Marvel Legends or DCUC, just with different choices being made for engineering, I now actually put them with ReAction and O-Ring resurgence figures; I get that some people like this style and will always like this style, but it has very limited appeal at this point to just specifically people collecting that style of figure. So.. PC and like 4 other dudes.

Can you imagine if Hasbro was still putting out Marvel Legends figures with the engineering of ML5-era ToyBiz just because 'that's the style of the line?' It's wild that S7 is still getting away with it. And with so little pushback.

I think the draw for me and for some others when it comes to MotUC is the uniformity of the line in terms of aesthetic, and the depth of character selection. It certainly ain't the engineering.

Man... I felt bad paying full price for Snarf when he's half the size... but whoo boy four hundred thousand was a price hike I didn't see comimg.

Accidentally bought 10 of them at that price and already got a shipping notice! Wiped out almost half of my current bank account balance. I'm really going to have to watch my expenses until I can return those.

All mistakes aside, I do want that Snarf, as I passed on the original. I do want that toy color Lion-O as I missed out on the original. I also anticipate these will cost 39.99 instead of 34.99 based on the error, so that increase kinda sucks. I'll put in a PO at Target, but Amazon seems to carry these deluxe offerings too, so I'll keep an eye out there too.

I don't need another Snarf at all and its not even something to pick up for potential custom. I am interested to see what other figure is released with him. Judging by the fresh ghost Jaga offering I think it might be Jaga.

You didn’t see toy colors Lion-O?

Almost half, you say?

Hey. Hey you. You know how much I care about ya, right? Almost like a brother to me...

I totally get that. But also I think a fair counterpoint to that is that Marvel Legends wouldn't be where it was today if they refused to grow and change just for the sake of uniformity.

Much as I hate Super7.... I would like to finally get a MOTUC-style Lion-O. It's pretty much the one brand I think really works in that style, and even though I now have the Origins stuff, having a Super7 Lion-O next to my MOTUC He-Man is something I have legitimately always wanted. Target exclusive, though? We don't have Target, so... guess I'm SOL.

Oh, right. I did and promptly forgot about it because its also something I don't want or care about at all.

I'm guessing they are tooling up the new Panthro to go with the Thundertank recolor, but once thats done I expect Deluxe Panthro will show up... probably in stores before the Thundertank version is in hand.
