Star Wars Black Series

Man, everyone's lists are killer. I'd buy everything mentioned. To be fair though, I'd buy anything made from the Prequel and Original Trilogies lol.

But some that I nearly put on my own lists were Beru and Owen and Young Boba Fett. I saw those on a few of your lists, and those were very nearly on mine.

But man, it's hard to pick a top 3 for EP IV with all the Cantina characters. I felt very confident in Garindan and Boshek, but as much as I love the look of the Death Star Gunner, it was hard not to just pick another Cantina character. I almost went with Labria instead of Death Star Gunner.

Death Star Gunner won though just because of how much I always have loved the POTF II figure.

I think the mention of Zam Wessel on just about everyone’s AotC list is not an indicator of how popular she is, more that there just aren’t many more memorable named characters in that movie. Not enough love for characters with actual lines. Where’s the love for Dexter Jettster and Elan Sleazebaggano?

She's pretty popular. Almost everyone I know who loves Prequels is waiting for Hasbro to do it. She was hot as a human and the old figure had a cool gimmick. And she's a bounty hunter. She did more than any of the ESB ones ever did on screen, and they are beloved by the old guard.

I had Dexter on my list before I swapped Padme in. As far as Action Figures go, I'd get way more nostalgia fun of Zam or Padme than those two.

My OG Stratocaster has Zam and Ayla's actors signatures on it because I had it handy at the hotel when they walked by at Celebration 3. Amy Allen was like reverse star struck at the idea of signing a guitar.

I guess I had bigger expectations for Zam Wessel. She had that preview figure back in the day, so I thought she'd have a bigger role, or at least a longer life.

Wasn't the suit originally a stormtrooper revamp?
Well... essentially. First off, thank you for this. Secondly, originally there was to be a team of commando troopers, 'super troopers', and they did actually make six of them. Then Lucas decided to do bounty hunters instead, and the suit would be for one unique character. Joe Johnston did one with the slice on the dome and painted the damage on it.

This was also the helmet used for Boba's first public appearance, the 1978 San Anselmo parade:

It was decided he'd have a dent rather than the slice and the dents were added to the other five helmets. They then sent three of the helmets, along with that one, to California where Sandy Dhuyvetter at Daydream Studios painted them in the same style.

Possibly the most famous of them is the Prepro helmet:

This one was photographed the most and used for marketing, such as on Kenner's original Fett card. These helmets were then used on publicity tours, and one of the others was used in ROTJ. The one above went missing and has since been found in a private collection.

The "Eyes" helmet with the slice also went missing, but the suit used in ESB was one of the ones Johnston kept and painted himself. He did two helmets that are almost exactly the same and one was used in ESB, and later again for the ROTJ:SE scenes.

With ESB, they were setting Boba Fett up to be a formidable villain, and someone they would have to face off against in Episode 6, then 7-9 would establish a new character when Luke split off to search for his lost sister, then they all defeat Vader in 8, and the Emperor in 9, or the other way around, I can't remember now. But Boba Fett and Jabba were to be the big villains for 6 until Lucas's divorce when he decided he didn't wanna do these anymore and just crammed it all into one movie.

What fascinates me is they did do six suits, and have shown them over the years. The ESB suit isn't the same as the ROTJ one, or the parade one, of the one above with the Prepro helmet. And there's more too. Every now and then, they'd pull one out when doing the costume tours like Magic of Myth, or they'd mix stuff up. Have a couple of plates from one Prepro suit, the jetpack from ROTJ, and gauntlets from a publicity suit. It's really kinda crazy, but the wear patterns make it possible to identify them. And yeah, I want a Black Series figure for every single one of those damnit.

The mystique of Boba Fett is probably a good comparison, despite 1979-1980 having no internet hype machine. But Zam was killed off within about 5 minutes of her introduction. Really felt like a waste to me.
Right, it's one thing for someone to be set up to be a big deal in one movie, only for them to change their minds before the follow-up and kill him in a toothy desert anus. Zam is all in one movie, but we also shouldn't have expected a lot since the preview figures for the previous movie were Mace Windu, who had some lines but mostly just sat there, and the Battle Droid on the STAP thingie, who had some brief action then that was it. So, Zam actually did a lot better since she was a pivotal character for a little bit.

Difference between her and Mace is that Mace survived three movies. There was more potential since E1. Zam was done in a fraction of that screen time.
