Star Wars Black Series

Well . . . Rowling openly says that any financial commitment from folks to her work means support of her garbage, so it’s hard for me to separate art from artist here.
Same. She's just so loathsome it's hard for me to enjoy anything HP related anymore.
And I’m a *huge* Neil Gaiman fan, but it’s hard not to look at things like the Calliope story in Sandman and not go “ohhh, there it is” now.
This is the one that bothers me the most. I was a huge fan, and now I can't help but see the hints that are in there. Ugh.
Like I can’t go back and watch any of Victor Salva’s films because holy shit once you know he’s a pedophile it’s impossible not to see it all over his films, especially stuff like Powder and Jeepers Creepers. He and Whedon have a lot in common in that there are confessions hidden all over their work, and it is fucking gross.
Salva is the one I simply CANNOT abide at all. It's clear from his work that he isn't the least bit remorseful. He's just sad he got caught. Other horror fans are always surprised that I hate the Jeepers Creepers films, but the overtones in those films make me sick.
At the end of the day, folks need to make their own decisions about this kind of thing, but for me, *especially* if the person is still alive and trading off of their work, it’s incredibly hard for me to return to their art.

Like HP Lovecraft? Fuck that shitty dead racist, we’ll just claim his art for ourselves and piss on his memory, literally if possible. That’s not so easy with some of these living folks.
Lovecraft, especially, is one where I appreciate his writing so much but despise who he was. He was just an asshole all around...not just racist, but a really lousy person. It's far easier to "separate the art from the artist" when I know I'm not financially benefiting the person at all. His being dead means he isn't getting a dime from me, so I can enjoy the world he created...though I still am quite aware that he was a complete piece of crap.
My favorite Black Series version of Din is the credit series one with the wonky concept art color palette. It's so vibrant and INTERESTING instead of clean and shiny.
I use that one as another Mandalorian in my display. He is so distinct, and really pops on the shelf.
Also, in Star Wars and GI Joe specifically I want the no-name characters, because for whatever reason those are worlds where I am interested more in the vibes of the setting than most of the signature characters in it (with some exceptions). Like, I don't want a generic superhero figure coming from ML. I want Spider-Man. But I've got several codename-less figures from GI Joe and if Black series ever made generic Jedi and Sith I'd be all over them. For these franchises I want to headcanon more. I could delve into why, but that's my weird quirk with these lines specifically.
I especially do this with Black Series. Pop an extra head on a Jedi body, and I've got a new character running around with Kit Fisto and Plo Koon. Add in some strange looking alien into the Cantina or Jabba's palace and I've got a mysterious smuggler or bounty hunter. To me, they kind of flesh out the shelf they are on, and give it some extra flair.
The red armor, white lightsaber figures were imperial knights in old canon. They were part of the Legacy comics more then anything, and while they were supposed to be neautral (hence the white lightsabers) they often were dicks and seemed to favor the dark. I do believe the tried to kill Cade on a number of occasions. I also made a couple customs of those in the older days. I don't know if I still have them.
I really wish the Star Wars films and shows would do a massive time jump and bring some of the story elements from that series into canon. Cade was a great character, and concepts like the Jedi splitting into two orders where one served the government and the other remained dedicated to their principles were really interesting. Having a new sect of Sith that didn't believe in the Rule Of Two added some great new villains to the lore as well. It was Star Wars through and through, but it added some new ideas that really gave the saga a much-needed shot in the arm. It wouldn't be that hard to adapt a lot of these ideas into a new set of films.

I've thought about doing this myself a lot and just never committed, but maybe I will this year.
