Star Wars Black Series

Ugh - anyone else just get Hasbro's email blast for these?

Let's play a game: were these blurbs written by a human or AI?

With premium articulation and balanced weight, these figures are built for dynamic display.

The Seventh Sister Inquisitor steps out of the shadows and into your display!

Star Wars The Black Series delivers premium deco and screen-accurate details that make these figures stand out in YOUR collection!

The packaging pays homage to the classic Kenner era, instantly transporting fans back to the roots of Star Wars collecting.

These aren't just figures, they are a time capsule of cinematic storytelling. The embodiment of conflict, courage, and destiny made tangible for your collection.

Honestly, it could be either/or, which is almost more egregious to me. It's that overly polished corporate speak that I'm so glad I don't have to spout to customers anymore. They're all about buzzwords and squeaky clean emotion, but to me it just lacks that human element. At this point, you're either gonna buy the thing or not; so while I suppose I can appreciate the effort, I look at the pictures of the thing far more than I read the blurb, so just show me pretty pictures and let's be done with it. 😅

It took me a second to realize the "Classic Kenner Era" in the above was reference to the TVC figures.

But yeah...cold go either way. I'm sure they have a bunch of trained monkeys with typewriters.

It's the same feeling I get when I see actual personalized text about the character on the back of the box, not just general words about the show, the saga, or the line. I know Disney can be secretive, but they can't tell you enough info about a character to fill out two sentences on the back of a box?

What makes you think they're trained?

I just popped the text into a few AI detector sites and it comes back 75-100% AI generated.

Not sure I needed to do that with action figures being referred to as time capsules of cinematic storytelling ... Yikes.
To be fair, most of my academic and professional copywriting comes back as 90% AI (even had a hearing at school) because of how I format myself and use dashes and parenthesis in those arenas.

Sorry I have ADHD and like to tangent, robot.

But seriously, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy because all these AI programs are doing is pulling from what we have put out there in the system. And what's out there in the system? Oh. People write like this and use this sort of punctuation.

Yeah, as much as I hate AI I hate those AI checkers just as much - I'm sure my own writing would flag it since 11 of my novels were fed into fucking Anthropic and OpenAI. But also corporate marketing beats the humanity out of you. You just end up writing the same as everyone else after a while and by the time a paragraph of writing gets through committee, it's basically just words on the page. I mean it could be AI, or it could just be shit copy.

Corporate: you guys were right. I shared my Taco Bell LinkedIn parody around and people did think it was great writing and took it seriously. And I even got a gig off a friend.

So now I'm just going to keep doing that and consider that a free sample of my copywriting prowess.

POed Kyle and Sister. Very exciting wave to me.

I got all 4 of the new Black Series figures pre ordered today. I got x2 of all of them. I don't know why, but I always try to get 2 each of the saber wielders. I guess just to have extra sabers and to have multiple to display with or without robes and just have backups, since the saber wielders are my favorite figures to get in Star Wars.

And it's honestly easier to do now since I have cut back on some lines. MOTU and Star Wars definitely get the majority of money and attention.

If you told me I'd be super psyched to get a Count Dooku figure a few years back I wouldn't have believed you. But man, the Tales of the Jedi cartoon did so much with his character in such a short timeframe. I want a young Qui-Gon to go with him, actually, another figure I would not have expected to want. The Tales... runs are some of the best stuff they've done in terms of world building.

I opened Dash Rendar. He's... fine? I like the character and design, but the figure doesn't feel as awesome as it should? I unno. The face is fine but lack of scruff really hurts it. The figure is fine, well detailed and painted, but he runs into a little bit of the same issues Cable does with his shoulder pads. Also, lack of a rifle or the pistol he came with in the old PotF2 days kinda bums me out. Still glad to have him, just not as enthused with him in person.

Qimir is fantastic. I want another one to display both heads and styles. So hopefully I get a shot at a 2nd one. Wish he came with somewhere to hang his saber but he'll be holding it most of the time anyway. They soft goods work surprisingly well too.
