Star Wars Black Series

I think the Reek probably would be affordable. The Acklay would probably be somewhat expensive. I'd still grab it, but it would be fairly big.

Super late to the game- been a busy week- but I missed the SDCC set and every quick little restock since then. Hope this one'll be like the Endor set, where even if you missed it, they put it back up for a regular pre-order later on.

Now that I'm back home from my trip, I'm really excited to finally dig in to the new wave, the Cal set, and the ISB Agent. Just waiting on 1 more Dark Trooper and I'll be set.

Excited to see the Halloween figures are starting to slowly hit too. Never was able to pick up the Skeleton Troopers or the Wookie, but I do love me some spooky stuff.

Anyone had any movement on their Walmart Magnaguards? Pre-order still says August 1st, but no movement on the order itself. Saw they're starting to show up in stores. Walmart gonna Walmart, I suppose.

Well, I take back the first part of that last post. Refreshed the Hasbro page on a whim and was able to place an order for the BOTH set just now. Will I regret the purchase when I inevitably run out of room for the diorama? Probably. But at least my overflow will look hella cool. A nice surprise after a stressful week!

I JUST bought the game and while it's not my favorite SW game ever, I'd absolutely buy that as a set. I hope she gets a Gaming Greats figure some time. She's fun.
I played the game for a while but got bored and went back to Space Marine 2 (on my PS5 -- I have different games I'm playing on my X). I'm sure I'll pick it up again eventually. It's just, even after all the changes, not a great game. I fucking haaaaaate the Ubisoft-style open world mission types of 'go here and talk to a person, then go all the way somewhere else, then go back and talk to the person again for the next step - and nothing happens in between any of this.' And that seems to be like 50% of this game. Still... I'm open to toys.

Oh I'd grab an Eopie. Didn't they make one for the Viintage line for blue-shirt Kenobi?
Maybe? I know I had one several years ago from a set with poncho-wearing Qui-Gon. They may have re-used it for a Kenobi set. Looking at it with 4" figures, though, it is a fairly big boy and I'd be a bit surprised to see it in Black Series when these fucking clowns can't even get a Rancor to happen.
A Rancor. We're like 45 years into Black Series, give or take. There's a Black Series fucking Snowspeeder and TIE Fighter, but they can't get us a Rancor. Ludicrous.
And that really puts a damper on things when I'm wishlisting creatures, because I don't believe, at this point, they'll ever get to most of them. They've given up and just started throwing endless variations of Anakin and Ben at us.

There really is no rhyme or reason to things anymore. Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy that we got Turgle and Skoova Stev, but never in a million years would I have bet that we'd get them any time soon, let alone before more iconic creatures like the Rancor. Good or bad, Hasbro is always full of surprises!

That's for sure. But it also means they're not reliable for anything - including stuff you'd think we would have had years ago. It makes building and planning a collection quite difficult. And, I have to imagine, most of us -are- planning our collections these days. How many of us are just 'I buy whatever and I don't care what comes out?' I can't imagine very many.

I got the new Chewie today. Now, when I say I hate his bowcaster, please understand I also just generally hate the weapon. I don't like the way it looks in film, and I find it kind of obnoxious to work around in toy form. But this might be the worst bowcaster of any Chewie I've owned. It's just soft and falls apart very easily.

Besides that... goddamn this is a good Chewbacca action figure. Feels so much more mobile than any Chewie I've had before. Love the color he has (I'm colorblind, so I'm just saying I LIKE it, I'm not saying it is accurate - I honestly don't/can't know). I wish he had more downward range in his neck, though. Just being able to look down a little would be nice. Still, he's really great and I'm happy to be so close to having a fully updated original crew (I have Han in my POL at ToySnowman but haven't shipped him yet, so we just need a better Threepio and a new old man Ben -- please, Hasbro?).

Seriously. How has this line gone on so long without obvious entries like Lobot, Nien Nunb or the Max Rebo Band? How do we NOT have most of the cantina aliens in the line already? Why has Hasbro NOT done a Death Star Gunner? It boggles the mind.

I absolutely plan my collection, and keep within certain parameters when choosing what to add to my shelves. I know some people are completists who will buy any and every figure, but I'd imagine they are few and far between.

For sure - but I'm even talking about the completionists. I imagine even the guys that buy every figure still -CARE- what's coming out. Most of them, I imagine, are still planning who will go on what shelf, what a 'complete' display looks like for them, who is more essential to their collection if the line should end, etc etc. Even people that buy every figure still want to know if they're going to be adding Lobot to their Cloud City display, or if they'll ever have to make room for a Rancor in their RotJ (or Book of Boba, or Jedi Survivor) display.

The Max Rebo Band would make a good deluxe con-exclusive multipack. Give it fancy stage packaging - or hell, give them an actual stage!

This SDCC set makes NO sense when they could sell TRIPLE of this exact same thing at retail. This moment is actually iconic, it's the 20th anniversary, it's the two main characters - why is this locked being con exclusivity?! not even mentioning the availability debacle.

I know these characters are coming solo soon - that's not really my point. And also, putting them in regular packaging instead of the ROTS retro packaging MAKES NO SENSE!!! Making this Anakin and this Obi-Wan con exclusives is stupid.

And really - they couldn't find a way to get Padme into the line? They re-released Aayla, who is still available for under retail, and uses the same amount of plastic, instead of just completing the core ROTS cast?

We shouldn't have to repeatedly ask for main characters - not 13 years into the line.

I'm sure the argument is that it is a big, expensive box - and that tends to be two things that retailers are allergic to. Maybe you can get larger or more expensive items out there for the OT, because it's the OT. But it seems like retailers are interested in either those high-level legacy items (again, OT) or whatever is current, no matter how bad it is. My understanding is that even something like the STAPP and Darth Maul w/ Speeder is a hard sell because it costs a lot, takes up a lot of shelf space, and yet isn't considered 'relevant' by retailers.

That's why you get the huge deluxe pile of stuff as an SDCC set, but they put the figures on regular packaging - easier to sell them that way and cut out all the extraneous stuff that might make retailers not want to carry it at all.

Now, why not put them in retro packaging? That's the mystery.

Not getting Padme is also very weird. I suppose it could be related to lackluster sales (speculatively) from the TPM Padme? Doesn't seem like that figure was really moving units the way Hasbro might like to see and could make them gunshy about jumping to that character again so soon when they can play the greatest hits of 'guys with lightsabers and Mandalorian-style guys.'

I'm not a completionist but I buy, I fully admit, TOO MUCH SHIT when I like a line. (I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but I lost my childhood collections in a house fire, and then I moved overseas and got rid of EVERYTHING I owned in my 30s, so now in my 40s I am absolutely overcompensating for some empty spot in my heart and buying too many action figures.) But even I, an easy mark, really, really care what's coming out, and I'm pretty bored with Star Wars right now. I didn't even try to get the SDCC exclusive and if I want something like that I'll like, schedule a meeting with myself in the calendar so I can order it. But I have a half-dozen beautiful Ben Kenobis, two or three beauitful Anakins. Just nothing there to get me excited enough to fight for it.

Now Lobot and a Cloud City guard with two swappable faces so I could have the two versions of him from the Kenner collection? I'd schedule a 15 minute meeting at 1 pm on a Wednesday to preorder that. I haven't been super amped about anything lately other than Andor stuff. I mean I do like the ISB agent. and Smee is en route. But I'm not gagging about the latest reveals for Black Series lately.

Lame admission: I'd be happy with a rancor with the scale and quality of a Mythic Legions troll at this point if it's relatively cheap. But I think the Haslab killed any option of us ever getting one of them.

It's still a ways off, but I'm interested to see what, if anything, they do for the 50th anniversary in 2027. They can easily turn it into an overall Star Wars celebration rather than just ANH. I feel like that'll be a good time to do even some of the lesser characters they're not sure will sell too well- folks will be in a celebratory mood and more likely to buy whatever, but it's a good time to throw the fans a bone too and make those long awaited characters like Lobot, Nien Nunb, Death Star Gunner, etc.

Finally got around to opening the new wave, and they're all pretty stellar. I agree about Chewie's bowcaster; they've all been pretty bad, but this one definitely is. I've never really cared for the design of it either; it just sticks out way too much. I'll probably just end up gluing the attachment on, or just having him wear it over his shoulder. Other than that, I agree, it's a pretty stellar Chewie

Han is a huge improvement. Don't know if it's quiiiite a perfect face sculpt, but like the new farmboy Luke, it's pretty close. It's funny- it looks like how he looks in some scenes, but not others. Can't quite explain it. Fantastic figure otherwise; love the sculpted lines on his pants, and the little paint details on the things on his belt (that little pop of green is so nice and clean)

Merrin is a long awaited figure, and she didn't disappoint. I wish the magic effect didn't stick out quite so much; I'd have been fine with a little fireball or something, but it's nice to get a new piece. Really hope it won't be long until we get Greez and Cere.

Ezra is fantastic- great likeness, some great paint and articulation. We don't have a whole lot of red clothing in the line, especially this shade, so he'll pop nicely. The Night Trooper is really cool; I do wish there were swappable hands or a swappable non-broken helmet (or the damage was in a different place), but it's a small nit. A fun, cool, unique trooper. Interested to see if they reuse any of the wrapped parts for a Mayday down the line.

ISB Trooper is nice. Don't know if it's just mine, but the forearm armor seems to restrict things a bit, or at least make his joint a little tighter than it feels it should be. I'll probably only pick up one of these guys, unless they go on clearance and the heads are swappable with other figures.

The Cal set rocks. Glad they finally included another color saber; I currently have him dual-wielding, which is my preferred style in the game. Would love to get one more for the big crossguard saber and have a figure of him with all the saber styles. Wasn't expecting to love the handlebar stache head as much as I do; the other one feels too small in a way. Turgle is such an unexpected surprise. Of course I wish he was better articulated, but I just can't get over the fact we have him. He stands just fine, and while a hinged jaw could've been cool, the dopey open-mouthed expression is just so him. Same with Skoova- I never thought we'd have an official figure. More articulation would've been great, but like Grogu, he's so small, and never really does anything too crazy in the game, that I'm fine with a static figure. I'll probably end up gluing his helmet, though, since it keeps falling off any time I move him. Really happy we're finally getting more non-trooper figures from the Jedi games; I'd obviously love any and everyone they'll give us, but again- Greez, Cere, Bode, Ninth Sister, and maybe Cordova, and I'd be set personally.

Hasbro has really been killing it with Black Series lately- this is the best they've ever been, I'd argue. Absolutely can't wait for Qimir, Barriss, and the Temple Guard. Obviously I'd have loved them all sooner, but I'm glad they'll all benefit from the new way of doing things.

My Chewie can side-shimmy his whole head to the right an unnatural amount, but not left (maybe the bandolier is blocking him). It doesn't turn though. Are others like that?

Ok someone who has the newest Chewbacca pose him in his sassiest head tilt pose and post here to convince me I need to upgrade my super old ANH one.
