Star Wars Black Series

I do still think the best Cal we've gotten so far is the Jedi Survivor single release
Oh, definitely. That's a really good figure. It's just not -my- version of Cal. So he almost looks like a different character to me. Doesn't have the saber I used. Doesn't have the gun set up like mine. Doesn't have the hair I use. Doesn't have the costume I use. It's kind of a bummer.

It's the age-old RPG problem. Unless you just go with the default choice- which, while understandable, does negate one of the big draws of an RPG- no piece of merchandise will ever reflect your version of the character. As glad as I am to have figures of Cal, Commander Shepard, etc.- they'll never quite be perfect.

It'll SO obviously never happen, but that's why I think something like what they did with the Selfie Series, except with your own unique version of Cal (or whoever), would be a dream come true. Like what Mass Effect did with their customizable cover art thing a couple years ago- plug in whatever characters you want and it generates unique box art you can print out and slip in your game case.

It's times like these I wish I had- and was skilled in- 3D printing

The difference with Cal, to my mind, is that it wouldn't be hard to knock out enough variation in his look to satisfy most people well enough. But so far we've gotten normal head and trucker head, and that's it. It just feels cheap and lazy.

So does this confirm that Cal is the Malibu Stacy of the Star Wars universe? Throw in a new hat and call it a day?

Man, now I want a Cal Kestis Convertible and Cal Kestis Dream House.

Isn't Cal's dream house like, a bunker? Dude's been on the run so long he can't dream big anymore. Even that haven he finds at the end of gsme 2 is a small ass shitty level.

I was looking at the pics of Jacen and he does have a new saber hilt. Im glad. The first pic I saw it looked a little different then I thought, like Kyles saber. That makes me happy lol.

It's the little pleasures in life.

I have 11th Brother on order. I knew I'd cave on Rook Kast and Devon when I saw them in stores. I just did. And got Maul too even though I'm pretty sure I have this exact same figure. I'm a bitch.

All the talk of Devon's cloak limiting range, but Maul's cloak looks like an afterthought that wasn't budgeted for. Are people digging it?

Opened Zeb and the Mercenary Droid, and man, they're more winners.

Zeb is nice and sturdy, once you get the hang of him. Maybe it's the smaller feet, or the splayed toes or the fact that he's thicker up top than down below (you heard me), but he was a little trickier to get standing than the original Zeb. I For whatever reason, I'm not always the biggest fan of the flight suits on the human bodies, but on alien bodies like him or Ello Asty, I think they work. This one kinda feels like an in-between of the original X-Wing suit and the Sequel Trilogy suit, so maybe that's why I dig it. Clean paint all around; could perhaps do with a little weathering, but I like the crisp and clean look too.

Only real gripes with him are the gun that splits down the middle- keeps pulling apart a little too easily. I'm glad they made the staff one solid piece. I'd also probably have made the "angry" face a little more savage; looks less "battle ready" and more "smelling what Grogu just dropped after eating all those blue cookies". All in all, though, it feels really nice; whether or not it's worth the price is up to you, but I think $8 more than a normal figure feels more or less fair.

The Mercenary Droid is simple, but still has a lot going on; I love the designs for all the different ones and how mish-mashed they are, so you get a lot of various paint apps and a few little weathering bits (could even stand to have a bit more weathering). It's not exact to the "main" one in the film/marketing, but this is definitely one that's gonna be easy to customize. Still a fair amount of new parts too, and a little better range than many of the other droids. I wish they could've done something a little closer to the kinda "moss shawl" it has in the movie, but I wonder if that can be cobbled together. Really hope we see one or two more of these guys- I really dig it.

No movement yet on Embo or the Snowtroopers, but I'm really looking forward.

Oh, and regarding the Tibidon Cloak on Devon, I like it, and it really opens her up to more range. As long as you don't mind the color not being the right one, I think it works pretty well

Opened a few more tonight from the "OMG Hasbro stoppit" June explosion.

Eleventh Brother is just a great design for a character. I really like him but he might be the only time in recent memory I've REALLY missed an ab crunch on a Black Series figure. He would be so much more menacing if he could really curl over threateningly. But looks-wise he is probably my favorite inquisitor.

Zeb - probably sacrilegious but I definitely prefer the Rebels version of him, though the level of detail on this buck is a huge improvement. I'll never fully understand how his weapon works, probably the most illogical piece of equipment in the galaxy but it's always been like that so it's fine. some of the parts made me wonder if we'll see some reuse to make Jaro Tapal down the line. I actually think this figure rocks, objectively, but my Rebels favoritism is showing through and that's on me.

The mercenary droid is a hoot. I kinda regretted ordering him at first but a) Amazon discounted him by a decent amount before shipping! and b) he's a really entertaining hot mess of a character. I love that he looks like he's built out of spare parts and that reusing parts for him feels as much story-based as efficiency-based. They don't do much world-building with characters anymore, and this guy makes me want to build a story around him. He's seen some shit.
